The research object of this paper is the homograph between lining words and modal adverbs in Chinese Folk Songs Integration of Beijing,Shanxi and Guangdong volumes(hereinafter referred to as three-volume Integration). The purpose is to describe the specific linguistic facts of the homograph between lining words and modal adverbs in a given corpus scope, and to reveal the connections and differences between the two homographs.Firstly, the article investigates existing lexemes of homograph in the threevolume Integration, and then statistics the occurrence of lexemes from the distribution range, count of occurrences and occurrence frequency. Finally, taking the homograph "Shi"(是)as the representative, the paper reveals the connections and differences between the two homographs from five dimensions: phonetics, words, grammar, semantics and pragmatics. The paper consists of four parts:Chapter One,introduction. This chapter defines the research object firstly, and then summarizes the research conditions from the corresponding research and related research of the homograph between lining words and modal adverbs, points out the contribution and deficiency of the existing research, and thus clarifies the research value of this paper. Finally,we explain the research ideas, research methods and research corpus.Chapter Two,homomorphic language facts between lining words and modal adverbs.Firstly, this chapter explains the determination of lining words and modal adverbs and the types of homograph, and chooses the seven lexemes of homograph "Shi(是),Jiu(就),You(又),Ke(可),Dou(都),Hai(还),Ye(也)" as research object of this paper. And then,we describe the homomorphic specific facts of the seven lexemes in the three-volume Integration one by one, mainly from two aspects: Firstly, listing representative examples to show homomorphic language facts between lining words and modal adverbs.Secondly, describing the appearance of the homographs from the distribution range, count of occurrences and occurrence frequency in the three-volume Integration. The survey found that the homographs "Shi"(是)and "Jiu"(就)are the most prominent, which are reflected in the wide distribution range, the high count of occurrences, and the frequency of the lining words is much higher than that of the modal adverbs. While, the homographs "You(又),Ke(可),Dou(都),Hai(还),Ye(也)" have the performance that the frequency of modal adverbs is higher than that of lining words.Chapter Three, the connections and differences of the homograph between lining words and modal adverbs.Based on the synchronic level, this chapter selects the representative homograph "Shi"(是)to conduct the point-to-surface study. The concrete research is conducted from the five dimensions: phonetics, words, grammar, semantics and pragmatics. The basic conclusions are as follows:The connections between homographs: In phonetics dimension, timbre and pitch are also paid attention. In words dimension, the common characteristic is having stable recording form.In grammar dimension, the lining words and modal adverbs can also be combined with phrase and word, and their grammar position distribution is crossed. In semantics dimension, lining words and modal adverbs have obvious emotional meaning. The differences between homographs: In phonetics dimension, the lining words pay special attention to the length and intensity, and should be sung lightly and briefly in singing, while the modal adverbs have no such requirements in phonetics. In grammar dimension, there are three differences:(1)In composition capability, the lining words can be combined with chapter, sentence and morpheme level units, while the modal adverbs generally cannot be combined with them;(2)In the function of making sentence, the lining words don’t act as sentence parts, nor do they have the function of sentence formation. The modal adverbs serve as an adverbial in the sentence and have the function of sentence formation;(3)In grammar position, the lining words’ the property of the grammar position is rhyme grammar position, the modal adverbs’ the property of grammar position is logic grammar position. In semantics dimension, the lining words and modal adverbs have different meanings. The lining words emphasize the expression of emotional meaning, the modal adverbs emphasize the expression of rational meaning. In pragmatics dimension, the lining words use for the needs of aesthetic expression, have the structural function of extending structure and the performance function of rendering the atmosphere and conveying emotions. The modal adverbs use for the need of semantic expression, have the expressive effect of highlighting the focus and subjective evaluation.Chapter Four, conclusion.Summarize the research work and research results of this paper, and affirm the research value of this paper. At the same time,it points out that there are three shortcomings in this paper: the lack of study on the atypical homograph between lining words and modal adverbs;the discussion on the origin relation of homographs lacks scientific verification;it is not enough to fully reveal the connections and differences between homographs by the point-to-surface study.
