| Blood transfusion therapy is an extremely important medical method that is widely used at home and abroad to rescue and treat patients. But even with the great development of medical science, there is still no effective substitute to replace human blood yet,and the blood used in blood transfusion therapy has to come from healthy human bodies. In order to avoid the adverse consequences caused by market failures, the implementation of the voluntary blood donation system was the only choice and way to ensure the safety of clinical blood use.The voluntary blood donation system has been implemented in China since 1998,and has been gradually improved in over 20 years of development, leading to the standardized development of blood collection and supply. However, with the development of the economy and society, the medical and health technology has also been developed greatly, and people’s need for life and health has become higher and higher, which has brought tremendous pressure to the work of voluntary blood donation.China encourages medical staff to actively participate in voluntary blood donation and give full play to their exemplary and leading role.Medical staffs are ideal low-risk blood donors because of their professional knowledge in the field of health and strong self-health management capabilities. They are also more likely to accept voluntary blood donation and be recruited to participate in it than ordinary people because of their knowledge structure in the medical field and their positive attitude towards voluntary blood donation. At the same time, they have a relatively authoritative position in the field of health, and them taking the lead in participating in voluntary blood donations has a very important behavioral contagion effect in eliminating the concerns of other potential blood donors.Based on the public product theory, institutional change theory, and hierarchy of needs theory, this paper uses Theory of Planned Behavior as the analytical framework for empirical research to summarize the relevant opinions of scholars at home and abroad. The influencing factors of medical staff’s participation in voluntary blood donation are concluded as the basic demographic characteristics, attitude towards voluntary blood donation, subjective norms of voluntary blood donation, control of voluntary blood donation perception and behavior, and intention of voluntary blood donation.Referring to the Questionnaire on the Behavior of Chinese Voluntary Blood Donors issued by the National Health Commission in 2021 and the Voluntary Blood Donation Motivation Evaluation Scale compiled by Tu Xiaoming(2014),and based on my years of work experience and the characteristics of the research target of this paper,a questionnaire and semi-structured interview outline were formed to conduct statistical description and empirical research on the influencing factors of medical staff’s participation in voluntary blood donation in Neijiang City. The results showed that: First, medical staff’s participation rate of voluntary blood donation in Neijiang City reached59.6%,which was significantly higher than that of the general population;the participation rate of males were slightly higher than that of females, with no obvious gender difference;the age structure is mainly concentrated in the age group of 31-45 years old,and the participation rate of married medical staff is slightly higher than that of unmarried medical staff;the participation rate of medical technician and nurse is significantly higher than that of other medical staff;the participation rate of medical staff in secondary medical institutions is higher than that of tertiary and primary medical institutions;the participation of medical staff in voluntary blood donation is mainly in groups.Second, the attitude of medical staff towards voluntary blood donation is generally positive. They have a high awareness of knowledge about voluntary blood donation and are easily recruited by the media and organizations to participate in it.Helping others to get medical treatment, contributing to the national cause of voluntary blood donation, and realizing their own professional value of saving the dead and the wounded are the most important motivation of medical staff to donate blood.Third, the advantages of the system play an important role in promoting medical staff’s participation in voluntary blood donation. The most important factor that promotes medical staff’s participation in voluntary blood donation is the mandatory requirements from the hospitals. And the most important factor that hinders medical staff’s participation in voluntary blood donation is inconvenience in time and space.Fourth, giving compensatory holidays and material incentives such as allowance has limited effects on promoting medical staff’s participation in voluntary blood donation. |
