A Study On Forster’s Ecological Critical Thought Of Capitalism

In the process of constantly transforming and conquering nature,human beings have exerted extensive and profound influence on the natural environment,some of which are good for the natural environment,while the others are bad,gradually exceeding the carrying capacity of the natural environment itself as well as deriving a series of ecological and environmental problems.“Sustainable development” is becoming the core issue that human beings must consider.John·Bellamy·Foster has realized that capitalism is mutually contradictory with ecological protection and sustainable development,they cannot co-exist in nature.Forster,a representative scholar who firmly supports Marx’s position in the school of ecological Marxism,has rich achievements in ecological thoughts,most of whom are in the form of criticism.The ecological criticism of capitalism plays a central role among his thoughts.This paper hopes to study Forster’s capitalist ecological criticism deeply,so that the author can objectively analyze and evaluate Foster’s ideological system,in order to provide some reference and enlightenment for the construction of ecological civilization in China.Five parts are divided into according to the needs of the paper,first of which is about the introduction,including background,research status abroad in and out,literature review and other basic information about the research of Foster’s ecological criticism of capitalism.In the second part,the author traces the origin and context of Forster’s ecological critical thought of capitalism.Forster absorbed the essence of ecological and critical theory of Marx,Frankfurt School and Ecological Marxist School to form his unique and profound ecological critical thought of capitalism.The third part reveals how Foster thinks essentially about the contradictions between the capitalism and ecologic.Foster provided criticism against capitalism with four dimensions including capitalistic economy,technology,natural capitalization,and ecological imperialism,and revealed the essence of the ecological capitalism,and proposed to establish ecological socialism to help to resolve the ecological crisis.The author tried to present multi-dimensional evaluation about Foster’s ideas of ecological criticism of capitalism in the forth part.Foster enriched ecological thoughts from aspects of the research horizon and metabolic theory,which is greatly useful to Chinese ecological civilization construction.Nevertheless,on the other hand,his theory still lacks of revolutionary character,thoroughness and integrity,etc.
