| Since the 1960 s,capitalist society has undergone tremendous changes, the process of economic globalization has accelerated, social and political movements have gradually stabilized, and the exploration of women’s issues has developed rapidly in the Western world like mushrooms after rain. These changes have created a new context for the oppression of contemporary women, and Marxist feminism has emerged and developed in this new context. The issue of women’s liberation is an important category of contemporary Marxist feminism.Marxist feminists hold that the root of women’s oppression is the oppression of women by the internal structure of the family, the exclusion of women from social production, private ownership of means of production, class rule and other reasons. Therefore,it is necessary to study the issue of women’s liberation from a comprehensive and diverse perspective.Heidi Hartmann, guided by the Marxist social history view, devotes herself to the study of women’s liberation and the oppression of women in capitalist society. She has conducted a unique analysis of the theory of gender division of labor, the ideology of binary system, and the root causes of women’s oppression, becoming an outstanding representative of Marxist feminism.Hartmann believed that patriarchy is a social relationship between men and links it to the material foundation. At the same time, she proposed a research method on women’s liberation based on capitalism and patriarchy. She believed that women’s liberation needed to take measures such as establishing women’s political organization, striving for women’s rights and interests in the labor market, and controlling the means of labor reproduction, while challenging the capitalist system and patriarchy. Her thoughts and theories not only had a huge impact at that time, but are still an indelible mark in the cause of women’s liberation to this day. |
