The urban-rural income gap is one of the difficult issues of China today. How to narrow the urban-rural income gap has become the top priority to achieve highquality economic development and common prosperity. The report of the 20th CPC National Congress clearly proposes to accelerate the construction of digital China, comprehensively promote rural revitalization, and achieve common prosperity. As an important part of the construction of digital China, digital village construction plays an important role in promoting economic growth in rural areas and the coordinated development of urban and rural areas, and provides an opportunity to reduce the income gap between small cities and towns. On the one hand,it promotes the deep integration of digital technology and rural production and life, which is conducive to flattening the urban-rural development gap,and thus narrowing the urban-rural income gap;On the other hand, due to the existence of the digital divide, digital village construction may also have a negative impact on the urban-rural income gap. Therefore, studying the impact of digital village construction on the urban-rural income gap has become a realistic and urgent problem.Firstly, this paper clarifies the impact mechanism of digital village construction on urban-rural income gap and puts forward research assumptions on the basis of combing relevant theories. Then, using the county panel data from 2018 to 2020 and the county digital village index of Peking University, the paper uses a multidimensional fixed effect model at the county level to investigate the impact of digital village construction on the urban-rural income gap,and further discusses the role of four dimensions of rural digital infrastructure, economic digitalization, rural governance digitalization and life digitalization on the urbanrural income gap,and test the endogeneity and robustness of the conclusion; Then,It is examined from the micro level that the intermediary effect of self-employment and flexible employment and the regulatory effect of information acquisition using the 2018 CFPS data and county digital village index. Finally,it analyzes the heterogeneity of regional digital divide, intergenerational digital divide and digital literacy digital divide. The research finds that:firstly, the digital village construction can effectively narrow the urban-rural income gap, among which rural digital infrastructure, rural economic digitalization and rural governance digitalization have significant negative effects on the urban-rural income gap,and the effect of rural economic digitalization is the strongest.Secondly,self-employment and flexible employment have played a significant intermediary role in digital village construction and urban-rural income gap.Thirdly, the residents’ access to information has played a part in regulating the intermediary effect of selfemployment, and thus narrowing the urban-rural income gap.Fourthly, the impact of digital rural construction on urban-rural income gap has regional heterogeneity, age heterogeneity and digital literacy heterogeneity. From the perspective of regional heterogeneity, the role of digital village construction in the eastern region is more obvious; From the perspective of age heterogeneity, digital village construction has a more obvious effect on rural young and middle-aged people; From the perspective of heterogeneity of digital literacy, digital village construction has more obvious effect on rural residents with high digital literacy. On this basis, for playing the role of digital village construction in reducing the urban-rural income gap,China should strengthen the construction of digital infrastructure to drive the overall revitalization of rural areas;Speeding up the digital transformation of rural industries and increase the total economic volume of rural areas;Increase the cultivation of digital talent team to activate hematopoietic function in rural areas.
