| With the rise of China,India and other emerging economies in Asia and the eastward shift of the world’s economic center, the Indo-Pacific region has become the center of the world’s geopolitical economy. In order to dominate affairs in the Indo-Pacific region and contain the peaceful rise of China, the Biden administration continued to develop the Indo-Pacific strategy under the Trump administration, indicating that the United States would strengthen its influence in the Indo-Pacific region and maintain its dominance in the region. In order to maintain the U.S.leadership in the Indo-Pacific region,Biden continued to introduce the Indo-Pacific strategy after taking office. The strategy aims at the following five points: promoting freedom and openness in the Indo-Pacific region, reshaping the US alliance system, strengthening the US domestic economic weaknesses, promoting integrated deterrence in the Indo-Pacific region, and coping with non-traditional security threats. These strategic goals also reflect the Biden administration’s urgent need to strengthen ties with the Indo-Pacific region in order to enhance U.S.influence there. The Biden administration has been pushing forward the implementation of the Indo-Pacific Strategy.Politically,it will promote US-Taiwan relations to contain China,co-opt and support India to counterbalance China, support the centrality of ASEAN,expand US-Japan-South Korea cooperation, and strengthen its presence in the Pacific island countries. On the economic front, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework will be introduced to strengthen infrastructure construction and emphasize supply chain security.Militarily, strengthen military input in the Indo-Pacific region, establish and implement the AUKUS Alliance, and encourage NATO to counter China. The Biden administration’s Indo-Pacific strategy has received positive responses from some countries and started to push forward relevant measures. The Biden administration’s Indo-Pacific strategy is an adjustment and upgrade of the Trump administration’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, which aims to contain China and maintain its dominant position in the Indo-Pacific region.Through a comparative analysis of the Biden administration’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and the Trump administration’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, both sides advocate maintaining the dominant position of the United States in the Indo-Pacific region, strengthening its military power in the region and containing the rise of China. However, with the change of the political and economic situation in the Indo-Pacific region, the change of the US government and the personal factors of the leaders, the Indo-Pacific strategy launched by Biden after he took office is very different from that of Trump. The United States has specific differences in its positioning of the Indo-Pacific region, its special positioning of China and its attitude toward Allies and partnerships.By analyzing and studying the Indo-Pacific strategy of the Biden administration,it is helpful to understand the development trend of the Indo-Pacific strategy of the US government and better reveal the overall trend of the US foreign policy strategy. |
