| With the economization of international politics, foreign aid has become one of the important means of diplomacy of major powers in the world today. As outstanding developing countries,China and India have achieved outstanding development results, have huge development potential, and are playing increasingly important roles in the international political arena. The two countries have also emerged in the field of foreign aid, breaking the traditional foreign aid shackles dominated by Western countries, and developing and exploring new foreign aid models with their own characteristics.Although they are both emerging donor countries, there are many differences in foreign aid between the two countries.Analyzing the distribution pattern, geopolitical competition, and driving mechanism of China and India’s foreign aid can not only understand the spatiotemporal evolution of China’s and India’s foreign aid and the status quo of geopolitical competition but also provide some enlightenment for China to better carry out foreign aid.Based on the foreign aid data of China and India, this paper uses the literature research method, comparative analysis method,GIS spatial analysis method, least square method, and other methods to study the distribution pattern of foreign aid in China and India and the driving mechanism behind it.The paper is divided into six parts: the first part mainly expounds on the research background and significance of the distribution pattern and driving mechanism of foreign aid in China and India, and sorts out the progress of related research at home and abroad;the second part mainly explains and defines related concepts, sorted out the relevant theories of the study, and laid the theoretical foundation for follow-up research;the third part uses GIS spatial analysis method, standard deviation ellipse algorithm and coupling analysis method to analyze the spatial pattern of foreign aid and the time and space of foreign aid center of gravity of China and India. The changes and coupling are analyzed; The fourth part analyzes the geopolitical competition between China and India’s foreign aid starting from the two key areas of foreign aid between the two countries. The fifth part analyzes the relationship between China and India through nine driving factors. The driving mechanism of the temporal and spatial evolution of foreign aid is empirically studied. The sixth part is the conclusion and discussion,This chapter mainly summarizes the main conclusions of this paper, thinks about the enlightenment China has obtained from it,and at the same time discusses and looks forward to the aspects that need to be deepened and improved in this study. The research found that:(1)China’s foreign aid is distributed in underdeveloped countries all over the world, and the spatial distribution is relatively uniform, while India’s foreign aid is mainly concentrated in India’s neighboring countries. In the key areas of foreign aid,China’s foreign aid is mainly concentrated in sub-Saharan Africa, and India’s foreign aid is mainly concentrated in South Asia and Southeast Asia.overlapping.(2)The geopolitical competition between China and India for foreign aid is currently mainly concentrated in South Asia and Africa. This is especially evident in South Asian countries such as the Maldives,Sri Lanka, and Nepal. At present,India is limited by factors such as its economic strength, and the scale of economic assistance in Africa is far less than that of China. The African continent has huge potential for development and has become an important target for foreign aid from China,India, and even major countries in the world.(3)Factors that have a significant impact on China-India foreign aid include economic development, infrastructure, economic interests, poverty, and terrorism.Among them, the economic development needs of the recipient countries and the economic interests of the donor countries have gradually increased the influence on the distribution pattern of China and India’s foreign aid.The distribution pattern of foreign aid between China and India is the result of the interaction of various factors.Based on relevant statistical data, this study has conducted a comparative study of the spatiotemporal evolution and driving mechanism of foreign aid between China and India since the 21 st century. The research results expand the research fields of economic geography and political geography on international aid,and have important significance and value for us to further understand the spatial orientation, strategic objectives, and geopolitical interests of India’s foreign aid. |
