Picture books are one of the basic books for children.They play an important role in guiding children to form their world outlook,outlook on life and values.Families and kindergartens also pay more and more attention to the educational role of picture books.Parents and teachers should first interpret the picture books themselves before carrying out picture book education.However,the characteristics of picture books interpreted by adults and children are different,including the different interpretation of plots.The plot is one of the elements throughout the story,and plays a very important role in the story.Therefore,it is particularly important to study the characteristics of children’s interpretation of picture book plots,and carry out appropriate and targeted picture book education according to these characteristics.This study begins with the introduction,then reviews the existing relevant research,introduces the research methods and processes,presents the materials,and then summarizes and extracts the findings of this study from the materials.The origin of the study is influenced by two factors: one is that the researcher has consulted the history of the development of picture books and the current situation of their use,which arouses the enthusiasm of the researcher to make a modest contribution to the development of picture books;the other is that the researcher has doubts in practice,and the researcher decides to find out the answer for it;the other is that this part also introduces the purpose that the researcher wants to achieve through this study.Biao,as well as the key concepts: "picture book","plot" and "interpretation" combing and defining.Researchers are divided into two major parts to sort out the Enlightenment of this study,namely,the related research on plot interpretation of picture books and the related research on the orientation of plot development analysis.The research related to plot interpretation of picture books is introduced in the order of domestic and foreign,and the grammatical structure and literary elements are mainly introduced when the orientation of story analysis is presented.By sorting out the literature,the researcher learns about the research status of plot interpretation of picture books,and finds theoretical support and reference for this study.It further confirms the feasibility of this study.The research methods are mainly presented from the aspects of structure,objects,tools,collection methods,classification and reliability analysis.Two picture books,Whale and Frog for Dinner,were selected as reading tools.In view of the low level of narrative ability of children in small and middle classes,the researchers selected 19 children in large classes in Taipei as the research object.In order to avoid the one-sided and incomplete drawbacks of data collection,the researchers used three in this study in turn.Data collection methods: story retelling,informal interviews and work analysis.Story retelling is carried out after the subjects have read the picture books,aiming at collecting the corpus of children’s own interpretation of the story;informal interviews are conducted after story retelling,aiming at further exploring the neglected or unexpressed interpretation of the story through questioning;and work analysis is carried out after informal interviews,aiming at further collecting the subjects of study.Interpretation of the sequence of the story.After data collection,the researchers used CHILDES(International Children’s Corpus Exchange System)to assist in data collation and analysis: even with CHAT translation format for transcription of audio recordings into verbatim manuscripts,and then combined with photos collected in the form of pictures sorted works for classification,coding and collation.The collected materials were coded and analyzed.The analysis includes two aspects of the plot,namely the sequence of events and the course of events,presents and analyses the materials after sorting out.The sequence of events is analyzed from the horizontal(each part of the plot)and the vertical(the whole plot);the process of events extraction and interpretation is a more prominent phenomenon.By summarizing the phenomena and characteristics of the analysis,the researchers found that besides the same plot as the original text,the children’s interpretation also presented the following features: 1.The interpretation model presented the "watermelon pattern";2.Emphasizing explicit behavior in the interpretation;3.Children’s interpretation was full of personal color;4.Different children had different interpretation results in different ways of interpretation.On the basis of summarizing the results of this study,the researcher also discussed the similarities and differences between the conclusions of the previous studies,in order to further support some of the conclusions of the study,and also provide research directions for future research.In addition,the world is not perfect.This study also has some shortcomings.Researchers conclude that there are two main limitations in this study: one is the limitation of the research object,the unequal proportion of men and women;the other is the limitation of the researcher’s personal experience;the inability to obtain more results by means of research tools,which also makes the research more difficult.
