The relationship between media technology and democratic politics has always been the focus of political communication studies and belongs to the field of media communication effects.Different types of media and different media content have different political utility.The use of media news is an important way to cultivate citizens’ sense of political efficiency,and it is of great significance to citizens’ political participation.With the increasing popularity of social media in the daily life of citizens,it has not only become an important source of current political news for college students,but also changed the form and connotation of political participation in an unprecedented way.Expressive participation is an important form of social media platform and an important part of political participation,which has important political significance for our country.College students use social media platforms to express opinions and discuss the current affairs content,cultivate civic awareness in the process of spontaneous politicization,develop relevant skills for political participation,and contribute to the development of democratic politics in China’s negotiation.The COVID-19,as a global public health emergency,has aroused global attention and once again demonstrated the enthusiasm of university students to participate.Due to the control measures during the epidemic,the importance of social media in information communication and public opinion communication has been highlighted.This article combines social cognition theory and communication intermediary model,following the stimulus-orientationresponse path,and considers the attention of college students on social media current news during the COVID-19 epidemic on its internal political efficacy,external political efficacy and collective political efficacy The effect of culture on three types of political effectiveness on the expressive participation intention of social media platforms.And explore the relationship between internal political efficacy,external political efficacy and collective political efficacy in the context of China’s political culture.With a view to increasing the willingness of Chinese college students to participate and to provide empirical advice for guiding college students to participate reasonably and orderly in future emergencies.Based on the review of relevant literature at home and abroad,this article clarifies the relationship between social media current political news attention,internal political efficacy,external political efficacy,collective political efficacy,and social media expressive participation.And research hypotheses.Subsequently,by means of online questionnaire survey,sample data was collected by snowball sampling.Finally,this paper validates the model with the help of Smart PLS 3 analysis software.The data shows that the research model has good reliability and model adaptability,and draws the following conclusions:During the COVID-19 epidemic,college students ’attention to news topics related to the epidemic on social media platforms will positively affect their internal political efficacy,external political efficacy,and collective political efficacy.Among them,the sense of internal political efficacy has a moderate explanatory power to the social media’s willingness to express participation intentions,and the explanatory power of the collective political efficacy is relatively weak.The external political efficacy does not affect the social media expression of college students’ willingness to participate.The external political effectiveness of college students has a substantial influence on the collective political efficacy,and has a moderate influence on the internal political efficacy.Finally,based on the conclusions of the study,this article puts forward relevant suggestions for government departments in order to improve college students’ sense of political efficiency and willingness to participate.And this paper discusses the shortcomings of this study and the prospects for future research.
