Purpose:To investigate the maximum repetitions of trained and untrained male college students in barbell back squat and barbell bench press under four load intensities.Methods:32 subjects were divided into two groups according to the experience of resistance training(18 experienced and 14 inexperienced).First,1RM of barbell back squat and bench press were measured,and then the maximum repetitions of bench press and back squat were measured at the load intensities of 95%,85%,75%and 65%1RM.The maximum repetitions of each exercise between the two groups and the number of repetitions of bench press and squat in the two groups were tested by two independent samples T test.Results:(1)In the experienced group with 65%,75%,85%and 95%resistance training,the maximum repetition of bench press was 19-25,13-15,5-7,2-3,and the maximum repetition of back squat was 22-30,12-20,6-7,2-3;(2)In the inexperienced group,the maximum repetition of bench press was 14-19,10-13,6-7 and 2-3,and the maximum repetition of back squat was 16-21,11-14,5-6 and 1-2,when the resistance training was 65%,75%,85%and 95%.(3)The experienced group had significantly more repetitions of bench press at 65%1RM and 75%1RM intensity(P<0.05),and the maximum repetitions of back squat at 85%,75%and 65%1RM intensity were significantly more(P<0.05).(4)The maximum repetitions of barbell squat was significantly more than that of barbell bench press in the experienced group at 65%1RM(P<0.05);In the inexperienced group,the repetitions of bench press was more than back squat when the load was 85%1RM,and the repetitions of back squat was more than bench press when the load was 65%1RM.Conclusion:(1)In male college students,with or without resistance training experience,the number of repetitions decreased with the increase of load intensity.There was no definite number of repetitions for each load intensity,but a range of repetition.(2)Male college students with resistance training experience were able to repeat more when 75%and 65%1RM in back squat and bench press.(3)At 65%1RM,the maximum repetitions that back squat could complete more repetitions than bench press.
