Since the global outbreak of the COVID-19,the teaching mode of overseas Chinese language teaching has changed considerably based on the Internet,most notably the flourishing of online Chinese language institutions with Chinese children as the main learners.The richness of online teaching makes it easier for students to take initiative,but also places a higher demand on learners’ self-motivation.Motivation affects the level of enthusiasm and persistence of learners,and its importance cannot be overstated.Due to their age and physiological characteristics,children of Chinese descent do not have a high level of concentration,motivation and initiative in online Chinese classes,which leads to poor results or slow progress in online Chinese learning.Therefore,how to design lively and interesting integrated online Chinese classes,how to fully motivate learners and how to create an excellent online Chinese learning atmosphere have become the main problems of online Chinese teaching institutions and teachers at this stage.By reviewing the existing research,it is found that most of the research takes a certain platform as an example,and less research focuses on the learning motivation of online Chinese children.Therefore,this thesis discusses more about how to stimulate the motivation of Chinese children to learn Chinese online.The ARCS motivation model provides specific strategies to improve learners’ learning motivation,which has important implications for online teaching.The organic combination of the motivation strategies in the ARCS motivation model and instructional design can enable teachers to clarify the motivation of learners’learning motivation,thereby make teaching practice more targeted.This research takes the author’s personal teaching practice in an online institution as an example,adopts a combination of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews,and draws on Keller’s motivational strategy design model and Kemp model to try to build an instructional design model.The application of motivational strategies to teaching is explained in detail.Finally,the effectiveness of ARCS motivational model in stimulating the learning motivation of online Chinese children’s Chinese classroom learners is verified from the perspectives of motivation level and student emotional changes,and from the teaching platform and teachers.Some suggestions are put forward to improve the motivation of Chinese children to learn Chinese at the elementary and middle level online.On the one hand,the online Chinese teaching platform should fully tap and give full play to the role of the teaching and research department,develop functions in various aspects.For example,attach importance to and strengthen the research on online classrooms,develop auxiliary teaching functions,construct virtual learning communities,and help students find schoolmates.On the other hand,online Chinese teachers of overseas Chinese children should make scientific use of the courseware provided by the platform before class,reasonably arrange the teaching plan,enrich the curriculum setting of cultural teaching,and scientifically select the content of cultural teaching;Teaching methods;timely feedback after class to continuously improve their professional quality.
