As the core component of Chinese teaching materials,text selection system embodies the mainstream ideology of the country.Since it was put into use in 2016,the Chinese textbook for junior middle school has focused on cultivating students’ core Chinese literacy with its rich humanism and science.However,the compilation and improvement of the textbook is a dynamic process of development.Keeping the original,absorbing foreign and facing the future is the key to the textbook’s vitality.As one of the developed countries in the world,Britain has attracted worldwide attention for its advanced education concepts.Since the release of The Cambridge Native Language textbook for junior middle school in 2015,it has exerted a wide influence in Britain and even the world.Therefore,this paper carries out a comparative study on the selection system of Chinese textbooks for junior high school compiled in China and English Cambridge textbooks for junior high school mother tongue,in order to provide some reference for the compilation and improvement of Chinese textbooks for junior high school compiled in China.This thesis consists of three parts: introduction,text and conclusion.The introduction mainly explains the basis and significance of the topic selection,research status at home and abroad,research content and methods and related concepts.As the main body of this paper,the main body consists of six aspects.First,the theoretical basis of comparison.This paper mainly explains the specific requirements of the curriculum standards of English and Chinese for selecting and compiling texts and points out the characteristics of the two editions,which lays a theoretical foundation for the subsequent research.The second aspect is the partial research on the selected text content of mother tongue textbooks in Chinese and English junior middle schools.In the content of the Chinese textbooks for junior middle schools compiled by China,there are some characteristics,such as paying attention to the classics of selected texts,single source of selected texts,patriotic color of selected stationery,etc.However,the mother tongue textbooks of Junior middle schools in Cambridge show the characteristics of paying attention to The Times,rich sources of selected texts and rich color of selected texts.Finally,the author explains the similarities and differences in the content of the two editions respectively.Third,the volume and length of native language textbooks in Chinese and English junior middle schools are partially studied.As far as the Chinese textbooks for junior middle schools compiled by China are concerned,their capacity shows a trend of increasing first and then decreasing,and the length is mainly short articles,supplemented by long articles.In terms of the mother language textbooks for junior middle schools in Cambridge,the unit capacity and selection capacity are increasing year by year,and the length is characterized by medium articles as the main part and short articles as the auxiliary part.Finally,the author summarizes the similarities and differences between the two editions in terms of volume and length.The fourth aspect,the study of the theme of mother tongue textbooks in Chinese and English junior middle schools.Through comparative analysis,it is found that the theme of the Chinese textbook for junior middle school in our country emphasizes life,nature and philosophy,and covers other themes.However,the mother tongue textbooks of Cambridge Junior middle school in The UK focus on life themes and give consideration to other themes.After that,the author points out the similarities and differences between the two editions of textbooks.The fifth aspect is the research on the genre of mother tongue textbooks in Chinese and English junior middle schools.In terms of genre,the Chinese textbooks for junior middle schools are mainly literary texts,supplemented by practical texts.However,the mother tongue textbooks in Cambridge Junior middle schools are mainly practical texts,supplemented by literature texts.Finally,the author summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of the two editions in the genre.The sixth aspect,the enlightenment obtained from the comparative study of the text selection system of Chinese and English textbooks.Through the comparative study,the author puts forward the following suggestions for the compilation and improvement of the unified compilation of the junior high school Chinese textbook: First,in the selection of text content,while taking into account the classic,but also to highlight the modern characteristics of the selection;Secondly,in the capacity and length,respect the individual differences of students,and adjust the capacity and length appropriately;Thirdly,in terms of themes,while adhering to life themes,other themes should be evenly distributed;Finally,in terms of genre,we should give priority to literary texts while moderately increasing practical texts.The conclusion part summarizes the content of this paper and points out some shortcomings in the process of writing this paper.
