| The Compulsory Education Standards(2017 Edition)emphasize students’ autonomy and reading ability,and introduce new requirements for junior middle school English teaching.The purpose of this thesis was to apply the mind mapping teaching model based on cooperative learning to reading teaching.This study investigates the feasibility of using this teaching paradigm in junior middle school English reading to increase students’ reading ability.Guided by constructivism,schema teaching theory and knowledge visualization theory,this study principally explores three questions: 1)What is the impact of mind mapping teaching based on Cooperative Learning on junior middle school students’ interest in English reading? 2)How does mind mapping teaching based on cooperative learning affect students’ ability to retell the text? 3)How does mind mapping teaching based on cooperative learning affect junior middle school students’ English reading performance?The research object is 90 students from two Grade 8 classes at a middle school in Benxi City,Liaoning Province.The experimental class(EC)uses a cooperative learning mind mapping-based reading teaching approach,while the control class(CC)uses a standard reading teaching method.The writer spent 5 months on the experimental research.Methods used include questionnaires,and experimental research.Experimental data is analyzed and processed using SPSS 26.0 software.Before the experiment,a questionnaire was used to investigate students’ reading interest and understanding of mind mapping,and teachers and students were interviewed;A survey was completed after the experiment in which students in the experimental class were asked about their ideas,interests,and abilities to retell the text after applying mind mapping,and the students were interviewed.The results show that mind mapping teaching based on cooperative learning can improve students’ interest in reading,improve students’ ability to retell the text,and improve students’ interest in English reading.There are many researches on mind mapping at home and abroad,but there are not many researches on mind mapping thinking teaching mode based on cooperative learning.The combination of mind mapping and cooperative learning is also a research direction in the future.This study shows that the application of mind mapping reading based on cooperative learning has certain feasibility and effectiveness,students’ reading interest has been improved,their autonomous ability has been enhanced,and their reading performance has also been improved.However,because of the constraints of experimental time,author competency,sample size,and the time-consuming nature of mind mapping,this study is bound to have some flaws.As a result,it is believed that further research will improve it. |
