The curriculum standard of junior high school geography in compulsory education clearly states: it is necessary to change students’ ways of learning geography, develop students’ ability in geography learning, encourage active exploration, and help students form active learning attitude. As a kind of studying assistant tool, mind mapping can help students think positively in order to construct the relations between knowledge through extracting keywords from study materials, and is presented to students by way of vivid images and detailed captions. This way of learning can stimulate students’ interest in learning effectively, boost their efficiency in studying, and cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability as well as divergent thinking ability. So the introduction of mind mapping in junior high school geographical teaching to assist teaching has the practical significance.Based on the research results of modern educational theories and other relevant scientific theories, and through consulting literature method, questionnaire survey, conversations and interviews, this thesis sorts out and introduces the relevant knowledge of mind mapping, analyzes the advantages of mind mapping assistant teaching combined with characters of the junior middle school geography, and expounds the practical application of mind mapping in junior high school geography teaching respectively through case studies according to different teaching processes: preview before class, listening during class(taking notes), review after class, and problem-solving. The purpose of this study is to provide a kind of effective knowledge management tool, an thinking instrument and a learning method for teachers and students in order to stimulate learning interest, improve learning efficiency and also it can be expanded to other subjects which will lay the foundation for the students’ lifetime study.The following is the main findings of the thesis: the introduction of mind map into junior high school geography teaching successfully can not only enrich junior high school geography teaching methods, but also provide an effective way to study.(2) By means of interview and case analysis, this thesis reveals that the min map teaching method in junior high school teaching can improve teachers’ teaching attainment, improve geography teaching, greatly arouse students’ study interest, cultivate students’ learning habit of independent study, and further promote their comprehensive capability.(3) Adopting professional map-making software---NOVAMIND to make geography mind maps promotes the combination of modern technology and geography teaching.The author makes a limited exploration to the application of min map into junior high school geography teaching. Mind map teaching method is a brand new teaching method whose huge value and potential need to be further explored and perfected by researchers.
