With the increasing application of danmaku in open courses,more and more educators find that danmaku can increase the interactivity and presence of online learning.At the same time,danmaku also distracts learners’ attention,resulting in cognitive overload and reduced learning effect.In order to minimize the negative impact of danmaku and improve the learning effect of learners,this study defines the concept of danmaku based on retrieval learning theory and cognitive load theory.This study investigated the effects of danmaku on the cognitive load,learning satisfaction and academic performance of learners with different prior knowledge levels and cognitive styles in teaching videos of different knowledge types.In order to enrich and develop multimedia learning theory,and provide a theoretical basis for teachers to apply danmaku to online open courses.Experiment 1 took 89 learners as subjects,and explored the influence of the application of danmaku on learners with different prior knowledge levels and different cognitive styles in the online open course of declarative knowledge.The study found that danmaku will not increase the cognitive load of learners and can improve learners’ academic performance;the sending timing of danmaku has no effect on learners’ academic performance;the use of danmaku has different effects on different students’ academic performance.There were no differences among learners at prior knowledge level;danmaku were able to improve the academic performance of field-dependent learners.Experiment 2 took 94 learners as subjects,and explored the influence of the application of danmaku on learners with different prior knowledge levels and different cognitive styles in the procedural knowledge online open course.The study found that danmaku will increase the cognitive load of learners and can improve learners’ academic performance;the sending timing of danmaku has an impact on learners’ academic performance,and the learning effect of sending danmaku when asking questions is better than that of students.Good;there were no differences in the application of danmaku between learners with different prior knowledge levels and different cognitive styles.According to the research conclusions,the following suggestions are put forward:(1)Danmaku should be introduced in online open courses;(2)When using danmaku,it is best to send them during the teacher’s questioning stage to avoid adding too much cognition load;(3)In the procedural knowledge teaching videos,the application of danmaku is more recommended;(4)No matter what stage the learner’s previous knowledge level is at,the danmaku can improve the learning effect;(5)Among learners with different cognitive styles,danmaku can improve the academic performance of field-dependent learners.
