Self-control is an indispensable psychological quality in the process of children’s growth, which has an enormous impact on children’s study and life. There are individual differences in the level of development of children’s self-control.The backward level of development of individual self-control will trigger improper behaviors and bring trouble to their study and life.Rural left-behind children lack direct support, help, discipline and supervision from their parents in their studies and lives. Some left-behind children are in a situation where they lack parental affection, have insufficient educational supervision and their psychological needs are neglected.Lack of parent-child interaction, harsh disciplinary methods, and lack of supervision can negatively affect the development of children’s self-control.The “left-behind”situation is not conducive to the development of self-control of left-behind children, and their self-control development should be given more attention. This study took the left-behind children of S primary school in Jishui County of Jiangxi Province as the research object.A self-control growth group was set up in S primary school to improve the misconduct of clients due to lack of self-control.A questionnaire and interview were used to investigate in S primary school by the social worker. It found that the self-control ability of left-behind children is lower than that of non-left-behind children through the scale measurement of Grade 3 to Grade 6 students in S primary school. It found that left-behind children with a lack of self-control have different behaviors, which are mainly manifested in three aspects of cognition, emotion and behavior. From the perspective of society ecosystems theory, this study analyzes and summarizes the causes of the lack of self-control of clients. It found that the demands of clients have the following five aspects:changing unreasonable cognition, relieving negative emotions, rejecting misconduct, improving the attention level, and making learning plans. In terms of the design of service schemes, under the guidance of the theory of intentional inhibition, the social worker helped clients to form the intentional “stop signal” of self-control,to pay attention to cultivating their habits of thinking first before choosing behavior, and to strengthen their daily “stop signal”.In terms of the intervention strategy, this study adopted cognitive behavioral therapy. It used “pie chart”,“role-playing”,“behavior contract”,and “homework” to help clients to change their unreasonable cognition and stimulate them to make changes.Help clients to master effective methods of self-control,achieve successful self-control,so as to improve their self-control abilities and reduce improper behavior.Through the intervention of 7 group activities, the self-control ability of clients has been improved to a certain extent, which shows that the intervention of the group social work has an effect on improving the self-control ability of rural left-behind children. On the basis of the experience of research and intervention of group social work, the social worker comes to the following conclusions.Firstly,left-behind children with a lack of self-control need support and help.Secondly, the theory of internal intentional inhibition and cognitive behavioral therapy model can help improve left-behind children’s self-control.Thirdly,group social work intervention effectively improves left-behind children’s self-control.
