The heart of education is the instructional system or the teaching-learning process.To get a successful teaching-learning process,teachers must be competent in their respective subjects or content knowledge and be skillful in transferring knowledge to their students or teachers’ teaching skills or pedagogical skills.This study aims to investigate the importance of Pedagogical Content Knowledge(PCK)as the main instrument in science teachers and to explore the factors influencing PCK acquisition.The descriptive survey and correlational research design were used in this study.A total of 250 grade six science teachers from the north and south districts in the Yangon region,Myanmar participated in this study.This study consists of four dimensions of pedagogical content knowledge acquisition(knowledge of curriculum,knowledge of instructional strategies,knowledge of students’ learning,and knowledge of assessment)and four dimensions of factors related to PCK(professional development activities,satisfaction of work situation and attitude towards teaching profession and attitude towards science teaching).In this study,it was observed that the grade six science teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge acquisition was good.It was also found that this was significant differences in grade six science teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge acquisition by the role of attending courses.Still,there were no significant differences in other demographic factors in the questionnaire.The result indicated that the grade six science teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge acquisition was positively related to the factors on PCK acquisition such as their professional development activities,the satisfaction of work situation,attitude toward science teaching,and attitude towards the teaching profession.Moreover,science teachers’ professional development activities,satisfaction of work situation,attitude towards teaching profession and attitude towards science teaching are positively related with each other.This study could be used by the Ministry of Education to enhance the science teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge acquisition and the factors influencing PCK.
