Reading is an important way to acquire knowledge.With the development of information technology,reading is an internal driving force to actively explore knowledge,think independently and improve comprehensive quality,especially for primary school students.However,facing the vast number of extracurricular reading materials,how to choose appropriate reading materials for students is an important problem perplexing parents and teachers: if the selected reading materials are inconsistent with students’ reading level,it will have an impact on the reading experience,and even affect students’ access to the basic text information in the reading materials and reduce their sense of reading efficacy.Text readability is known as the link between text difficulty and readers’ cognitive level.It can not only help teachers choose appropriate reading materials for students,but also has many application scenarios in the field of Education: such as evaluating students’ writing ability and providing important basis for improvement suggestions for textbook compilation and curriculum planning.Readability formula is the most commonly used method to measure the difficulty of Chinese text.However,relevant research has achieved certain results,there are still the following problems: first,there are many domestic studies based on the readability of teaching materials for Chinese as a foreign language,and there are few studies on the difficulty of texts with Chinese as their mother tongue;Second,the existing research fitting formula lacks the effect test in children’s reading materials,so the formula is difficult to be popularized and used,and it is difficult to ensure that even the formula with high goodness of fit will not produce deviation when used in the prediction of new texts.Therefore,based on primary school Chinese textbooks,this study uses multiple linear regression model to construct readability formula to evaluate the difficulty of the text.The main work and achievements of this paper are as follows:1.Sort out the relevant research on readability at home and abroad and the representative readability formula,and synthesize the text indicators that affect readability proposed by these studies to determine the selection of prediction indicators of this study.This paper mainly summarizes the factors affecting the text difficulty level from the four levels of Character,word,sentence and text,and preliminarily determines the prediction indicators that need to be quantified.2.Construct the corpus of primary school Chinese teaching materials,carry out word segmentation and part of speech tagging on the corpus,use python programming software,and combine the quantitative index data of vocabulary,dictionary and other resources.The correlation between the index and the difficulty level is used to screen the index,and the extracted index data are randomly divided into training set and test set.3.Based on the selected indicators,the step-by-step method is selected to construct the readability formula of multiple linear regression,so as to correct the collinearity problem and obtain the optimization formula.At the same time,the data set is tested according to the standard of difficulty level three classification,and the accuracy rate is 88.3%.Difficulty level = 2.957 + 0.013 × Number of words-0.005 × Different Words-2.136 ×Average word frequency-3.326 × Proportion of material meaning words + 11.347 × Proportion of conjunctions4.Select some contents of the graded bibliography of primary school launched by the Institute of proximity to mother tongue,quantify the bibliography,obtain relevant index data and bring it into the readability formula fitted by this study.Through the comparison between the difficulty level of graded bibliography and the difficulty level predicted by the formula,it is found that the results of low difficulty level and medium difficulty level predicted by the formula in this paper are consistent with the reading level recommended by close to the mother tongue,but the prediction effect of high difficulty level is not good.This study explores the relevant factors affecting the readability of Chinese texts,and fits the text readability formula suitable for primary school students’ reading recommendation based on the corpus of primary school Chinese textbooks.The research results of this paper have certain reference significance and application value for the compilation of teaching materials,the formulation and promotion of graded reading standards,the selection of reading test materials,children’s reading recommendation and other fields.
