| Book review,Book review,as a critical style,can not only review and introduce books,but also exert great potential in the evaluation of works,talent evaluation and the promotion of cultural soft power.Therefore,focused on the field of humanities and social science book review research both at home and abroad,makes every effort to fully show their journals in humanities and social science book review at home and abroad,including the number of scale features,the review of carrier,disciplines distribution,book review form features.This paper explores the effective methods to improve the development of book review in the field of humanities and social sciences,and puts forward suggestions to promote the healthy and rational development of book review in China.In the research process,with the help of 2265308 "Book Review" data from SSCI and A&HCI,the development of foreign Book reviews from 1990 to 2019 was analyzed,and115,760 journal book reviews from CNKI were combined with manual identification and screening.This paper analyzes the development of book reviews in China from 1990 to 2020,and makes a comparative analysis of them.Research findings: 1.Characteristics of quantity and scale.The overall fluctuation of foreign publications decreased,but the overall trend of China was nearly linear upward.The number of book reviews published by Chinese scholars in domestic and foreign journals is increasing.The number of book reviews published by Chinese scholars in international journals is very low;International journal book reviews are mostly from countries where The official language is English or includes English.2.Characteristics of journals that publish book reviews.The number of book reviews published in domestic journals is much less than that in foreign journals.The proportion of foreign journals with more book reviews was decreasing in the past30 years,while that of domestic journals was on the contrary.The number of periodicals publishing book reviews at home and abroad showed a different growth trend before 2010 and a slow decline trend after 2010.The concentration of book reviews among periodicals in foreign journals decreases,while that in China decreases.The number of book reviews in major domestic review journals is much smaller than that in foreign journals.3.Characteristics of subject areas.The main areas of book reviews at home and abroad are generally consistent;The interdomain concentration of book reviews in foreign journals decreases,but there is no significant change in China.Most of the books reviewed are classics.4.Formal features.The length of book reviews in domestic periodicals is slightly lower than that in foreign periodicals.The proportion and number of references cited in domestic book reviews are lower than those in foreign journals.The citation times and usage times of domestic book reviews are much higher than those of foreign journals.The cooperation level of domestic book review is obviously higher than that of foreign countries.The proportion of book reviews funded by funds is much higher in China than abroad.Therefore,the following suggestions are put forward: 1.Promote the publication of book review achievements and guide relevant staff to actively pay attention to and write academic book reviews.2.Improve the book review indicators in the academic evaluation system,including bringing the achievements of academic book review into the scope of academic evaluation,introducing book review as an evaluation indicator in some specialties or fields,and taking book review as a member of the list of project achievements.3.Encourage the addition of book review columns in periodicals,and give full play to the advantages of columns being targeted and systematic.4.Add book review retrieval classification in the database,and add book review bibliography database and book author database under the book review classification.5.It is suggested to develop differentiated book reviews in different disciplines to avoid potential problems caused by promoting book reviews with "one size fits all" and "sweeping irrigation".6.Give full play to the role of book review in the "going out" strategy of academic publishing,encourage Chinese scholars to actively publish book reviews in international journals and select high-quality works with the help of book reviews for international publication. |
