| The group anxiety of college students can be seen everywhere from online discussion forum to offline campuses in recent years. In order to get rid of their own decadent psychology and draw a lesson from their growth experience, some college students have started to establish online support groups on social media to hold together for warmth, and with the increasing number of people joining, the scale of online support and assistance has gradually expanded. This study mainly takes Douban "985 Loser Introduction Program" Group as the research object, combines the perspective of social support theory, and uses a mixed research method of content analysis and semi-structured interviews to investigate the characteristics of online support groups for college students, how college students gain social support through participating in online support discussions, and whether the online support is transformed into motivation for offline study life to a certain extent. This study found that,in terms of support content characteristics,Douban "985 Loser Introduction Program" group was dominated by positive support content, with information support being the most common, followed by emotional support. In addition, there are two different forms of support: "topic post for help-reply post for support" and "topic post for support-reply post for help".In terms of the mechanism of action, the Douban "985 Loser Introduction Program" Group showed the path of "group integration-establishing support-perceived support-returning to Reality".The strong identification and belonging to the identity symbol of "985 Loser" is the basis for the establishment of mutual support relationships. In the process of establishing support,on the one hand, the posting content of helpers and supporters generally followed the matching principle,The content of the support matches the anxiety level of the group member, and the subject of the support matches the specific stressful event faced by the group member;on the other hand, the establishment of mutual support was also the result of reciprocal norms in group. For lurkers who only browse, they prefer to perceive support by comparing with posters or supporters, and this comparison includes three dimensions:parallel comparison, upward comparison, and downward comparison. As for the influence of online support on offline behavior, online support based on "weak relationship" lacks real-life supervision and companionship, and the closed and highly homogeneous online community attributes can hardly provide systematic guidance for group members’ offline actions, and most group members keep the support content only in their online relationship. The effect on online support in promoting college students’ study life is relatively limited. This study started from social support theory, the first half of this study summarizes the characteristics of online mutual support among college students by means of quantitative content analysis, and the second half explores the paths of online mutual support among college students by using qualitative research methods of semi-structured interviews, which enriches the research results of social support theory in college students’ objects and online social support to some extent. The study concludes by reflecting on the current problems of online mutual support groups for college students and providing solutions to the problems. |
