Social anxiety refers to the psychological problem that individuals experience when they are in a social situation and feel obvious fear.It is a common psychological problem in interpersonal communication among middle school students.As a chronic disease with low recovery rate and early onset age,middle school students with social anxiety will experience various social communication problems,and over time,it will also have a greater impact on other functions.Middle school students in adolescence begin to develop a desire for self-awareness and self-evaluation,paying more attention to their body and appearance.In addition,the influence of family,peers,and the media further exacerbates the level of body dissatisfaction among middle school students.At present,few studies have revealed the internal mechanism between the two.The aim of this study is to explore the chain mediating role of self-compassion and perceived social support between body dissatisfaction and social anxiety.This study used the Negative Body Self Scale,Adolescent Social Anxiety Scale,Self-Compassion Scale,and Perceived Social Support Scale to investigate the relationship between body dissatisfaction,social anxiety,self-compassion,and perceived social support among 824 middle school students in two middle schools in Shanxi.The data was analyzed using SPSS 25.0,and the research results are as follows:1.Junior high school students have above average levels of body dissatisfaction,social anxiety,self-compassion,and perceived social support.2.n terms of Demographics factors,physical dissatisfaction,self compassion,perceived social support,Social anxiety and some dimensions have significant differences in grade,gender,whether or not an only child,parents’ educational level,and family economic situation.3.There is a significant correlation between body dissatisfaction,self-compassion,perceived social support,and social anxiety.4.Self-compassion and perceived social support play mediating roles between body dissatisfaction and social anxiety,respectively.5.Self-compassion and perceived social support play a chain mediating role between body dissatisfaction and social anxiety.The conclusion of this study is that understanding social support and self-compassion play a chain mediating role in the mechanism of body dissatisfaction and social anxiety.Middle school students generally have a high level of body dissatisfaction,and individuals with a high understanding of social support can greatly alleviate body dissatisfaction,improve their level of self-compassion,and thereby reduce social anxiety by receiving support and assistance from others.
