The use of social network sites are seen as double edge sword with various pros and cons that affects students wellbeing socially and psychologically due to its excessive usage. The objectives of this study is to examine the consequences of technostress related to social and psychological distress and dissatisfaction which are related to body image comparison, thus are seen as dark sides as the excessive Facebook usage that influences users quitting intention. We provide an empirical justification on the use of stimulus-organism-response(SOR)and social support theory(SST)as one of the core theoretical background in the field of social psychology, and based on the findings associated with our hypotheses, the theory is appropriate to provide a deep understanding of both the social and psychological distress on users quitting intention due to the excessive usage of SNSs.In order to test the proposed hypotheses in our study,a survey link containing the questionnaire was sent to university students in Nigeria. We selected four different university as our sample where data was collected with the criteria of selecting students who are active users on social network(i.e.Facebook).Thereafter,total number of 312 questionnaires was distributed through the use of URL link,in which 293 were accurately filled and returned which represents a response rate of 92%which is suitable for further analysis. We employed structural equation modeling with Lisrel 8.80 and SPSS statistical software to run our analysis. The outcome of this study shows the three environmental stimuli(i.e.information,communication and social overloads)exert higher significant effect on technostress and dissatisfaction which prompted users to seek coping strategies to avoid adverse consequence induced by social network use.Hence, the current theoretical approach of our model deems it fit to foresee how technostress would yield different outcomes. Both effects on social network(i.e.technostress and dissatisfaction)further stimulates quitting usage intention due to inexperience and the inability of the students to handle social and psychological phenomenon. In conclusion, the source of social and psychological distress induced as a result of excessive usage of social network sites thus influenced quitting behavior.Age,users experience, frequency of Facebook usage and numbers of friends have an impact on discontinuous use of social network sites(i.e.Facebook),and this study expands the theoretical lens of stimulus organism response(SOR)framework and social support theory that has been under-investigated in the context of social network sites usage.
