With the overall improvement of China’s comprehensive strength,the dream of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is just around the corner,which calls for more and more high-quality bilingual and even multilingual talents.The further development of the Liangshan Yi region has made the Yi Ethnic Group people realize that in addition to mastering their own language and ethnic language,they should also master a foreign language to respond to the requirements of the new era and the impact of globalization.The multilingual education in Liangshan Yi region again faces the severe test of the times.Since the Yi language level of the Yi Ethnic Group students is not high at present,the Chinese language level is developing continuously.Thus,this study puts forward the core research question: whether the level of Chinese language readiness will have an impact on English learning and how about the specific behaviors of that in English learning.This research is to answer a practical question: whenever to offer English course so that Chinese and English can both get the best development.This is an applied research,choosing students of Grade 1 and 4 of a certain primary school in Liangshan Yi region as research objects,combining the ideas of linguistics and pedagogy,using methods of quasi-experiment,observation,questionnaire,and interview to collect relevant data to verify the influence of Chinese language readiness in English learning of Yi Ethnic Group students.Finally,the following conclusions are drawn: 1.There is a significant correlation between the Chinese language readiness test and the English proficiency test,which shows that the Chinese language readiness level can predict the English learning performance to a certain extent,and which also reflects the commonality of language learning skills,which answers the core question: the level of Chinese language readiness will have an impact on English learning.2.Chinese language readiness can not only have an influence on English learning in terms of language ability,but also affect learning in terms of non-intelligence factors,which shows that language learning is a complex psychological activity.Based on the above research conclusions,this paper suggests that the setting of English course in Liangshan Yi region should be measured properly according to the local students’ base.Throughout the whole research,the author proposes strategies to optimize English teaching in Liangshan Yi region from the perspective of language readiness,emotional attitude,language environment,and teacher strength.
