Research On The Relationship Between Social Support And Parental Burnout Of Parents Of Special Children And Countermeasures

The arrival of children adds vitality to the family,at the same time,it also brings challenges to parents and can even lead them to fall into parental burnout.Special children,due to their own characteristics,increase the burden of parenting on their parents,making it easier for their parents to fall into parental burnout during the parenting process.Parental burnout is a series of negative symptoms caused by longterm parenting stress that cannot be alleviated,including exhaustion of parental roles,emotional distancing from children,and decreased parental role efficacy.Parental burnout can also lead to individual suicidal ideation,more marital conflicts,and child abuse.Therefore,in order to prevent and intervene in the parental burnout of special children,it is crucial to explore the mechanism of parental burnout in special children.According to the Balance between Risks and Resources,sufficient social support is a protective factor for parental burnout,which can significantly reduce parents’ parenting stress;According to the theory of resource conservation,social support is an important resource that can help parents cope with stressful events,reduce parenting stress,and thus reduce the risk of falling into parental burnout.This article will start from social support and explore the impact mechanism of social support on parental burnout among parents of special children.Based on the research results,corresponding strategies and suggestions are proposed to promote the physical and mental health development of parents of special children.This study conducted a questionnaire survey on parents of special children using the "Parental Burnout Assessment Scale","Social Support Assessment Scale","Simple Coping Style Questionnaire",and "Parenting Stress Index Short Form".Using SPSS26.0 and its plugin Process,descriptive statistics,independent sample t-tests,oneway ANOVA,correlation analysis,regression analysis,etc.were conducted on the obtained data.The final research results are as follows:(1)Social support from parents of special children can significantly negatively predict parental burnout.(2)The negative coping of parents of special children plays a partial mediating role between social support and parental burnout;The parenting stress of parents of special children plays a partial mediating role between social support and parenting burnout.(3)The positive/negative coping and parenting stress of parents of special children play a chain mediating role between social support and parental burnout.Based on the research results,the following countermeasures and suggestions are proposed:(1)Building a family support system for special children;(2)Guide parents of special children to respond correctly;(3)Reduce parenting stress on parents of special children;(4)Intervention on parental burnout of special children.
