Students are the hope of the country and the future of the nation,and education,as an important way of training students,carries a huge responsibility.The family is the first place where students receive their education,and parents are the first teachers of their children,so family education plays a pivotal role in their development.In addition to external factors,students’ own factors also have a significant impact on their development.At this stage,learning is the main task of students,and their academic achievement has received attention from various sources.This study takes parental involvement in education and independent learning ability in mathematics as the main variables,and takes into account the characteristics of the subject to investigate their impact on the academic achievement of junior secondary school students in mathematics,with the following research questions:(1)What is the current situation of junior secondary school students’ parental involvement in education and independent learning ability in mathematics?Are there any significant differences in terms of grade level,gender,family structure,only child and parents’educational attainment?(2)Do parental involvement and independent learning ability in mathematics have a positive effect on junior secondary students’ academic achievement in mathematics?(3)What is the mechanism of influence between parental involvement,independent learning ability in mathematics and academic achievement in mathematics?Is there a mediating effect of independent learning ability in mathematics between them?This study was conducted in a middle school in Yancheng City,Jiangsu Province by means of a questionnaire.356 valid data were obtained,and the data were subsequently processed by SPSS statistical analysis software:(1)There is a significant correlation between parental educational involvement,independent learning ability in mathematics and junior high school students’ academic achievement in mathematics;(2)Parental educational involvement and independent learning ability in mathematics all have a positive impact on junior high school students’ academic achievement in mathematics;(3)Independent learning ability in mathematics plays a significant role in parental educational involvement on parental involvement and mathematics self-directed learning ability all have positive effects on junior high school students’ academic achievement in mathematics.Finally,based on the findings of this paper,the following recommendations are made at the family and school levels:(1)Parents should change their educational philosophy,establish a correct educational outlook,actively engage in family education,master the correct way of involving in parenting education,achieve high quality involvement,pay particular attention to parent-child activities,attach importance to the interaction with children,appropriately lead children to visit museums and other scientific and educational places,and at the same time establish a sense of home-school;(2)Schools should play a leading role in establishing a home-school cooperation mechanism,strengthening cooperation and communication with parents,organizing some family education guidance activities to help parents establish a correct educational outlook,and setting up a consultation channel to help parents solve some of the educational problems they encounter.Cultivate students’ability to learn mathematics independently and actively try out various modes of teaching independent learning in mathematics.
