Research On The Intervention Of Group Work In The Improvement Of Professional Capacity Of Social Workers

With the rapid development of China’s economy and society,the social structure has undergone profound changes and various social problems have become increasingly prominent,posing serious challenges to social governance and social services.Nowadays,the construction of social work stations has advanced by leaps and bounds,and by the end of 2021,17,000 social work stations had been built nationwide.The establishment of social work stations can both alleviate the chronic weakness of grassroots civil services and promote the localisation of social work agencies,social work practices and social work support platforms.Against this backdrop,social work is increasingly gaining widespread attention from scholars and the general public in China,and the demand for social work services is becoming more and more urgent,and the requirements for social workers are becoming higher and higher.However,given that social work is still at a preliminary stage of development in China,social workers often face many problems and challenges in their professional competence in the process of providing social work services,therefore,how to improve the professional competence of social workers in street social work stations has become an urgent problem to be solved.Guided by group dynamics theory and social learning theory,this study uses questionnaires,interviews and participatory observation to first analyse the inadequacies of their professional competence at this stage and assess their needs,then design a group activity programme and carry out interventions,then evaluate the group to test the effectiveness of the service,and finally Finally,conclusions were drawn,in-depth reflections on the whole group process were made and corresponding suggestions for improvement were put forward.The study found that the following problems existed in the professional capacity of the social workers at the X Street Social Work Station: at the level of transactional capacity,their writing skills were weak;at the level of direct service capacity,their motivation to involve the community was limited;at the level of social service management capacity,their organisational skills were lacking;at the level of core values,they had difficulties in acceptance and individualisation.Through the intervention of the group work method,their professional capacity was enhanced,indicating the feasibility of the group work method.However,there are still some shortcomings in this group that need to be improved,including the limitations of the study sample,the low continuity of the study,the single form of evaluation and the lack of a well-designed programme of group activities.In response to these shortcomings,the following recommendations were made: the selection of research subjects should be diversified,a rigorous,scientific and reasonable post-study plan should be developed,and professional evaluation and researcher’s continuing professional education should be promoted to enrich practical work experience.
