| Some new generation seafarers may have problems with their professional self-efficacy when they faced with a special professional environment. And most seafarers with low selfefficacy tend to present a weaker ability to get out of difficult situations. In this thesis, the new generation of seafarers is defined as seafarers whose age is 20 to 30 years old.Compared with the older generation of seafarers, there are significant differences in their perceptions, cognition, attitudes, and behaviors,as well as greater occupational variability. In a special professional environment, what are the causes and manifestations of professional self-efficacy problems of new generation of seafarers? What support is needed to improve the professional self-efficacy of new generation of seafarers? How can social workers improve the professional self-efficacy of new generation of seafarers in practice? How can the intervention of professional social workers help to improve the professional self-efficacy of new generation of seafarers? The above questions are the core issues of this thesis.Based on the above considerations, this thesis provides an in-depth understanding of the career status of the new generation of seafarers and uses ternary interactive determinism and energized theory as the theoretical foundation of this thesis.First, this thesis explores what kind of professional self-efficacy dilemmas the new generation of seafarers facing in the special professional environment, what kind of performance they have and why the problems arise.Specifically, the current state of professional self-efficacy of the new generation of seafarers was measured by a scale, followed by in-depth interviews of new generation seafarers with low professional self-efficacy through a qualitative research method. The follow-up interview data collection and analysis specifically presented the new generation of seafarers’ professional selfefficacy problems in terms of career stress and dysregulation, lack of career planning, and malfunctioning of career skills. The main reasons for the emergence of professional selfefficacy problems are past workplace failure experiences, negative states caused by the professional environment, negative alternative experiences from peer groups, and negative evaluations from supervisors. In the case work practice, through the preliminary understanding of the clients’ information and assessment of their current situation, this thesis focused on the needs of reducing occupational stress, establishing career planning, and improving self-identity.Also tried to build a social work service model for the new generation of seafarers to improve their professional self-efficacy with the support of ternary interactive determinism and energized theory. The thesis found that under this service model, the clients’ professional self-efficacy was improved, specifically in the three areas of reducing occupational stress, establishing career planning, and improving self-identity.Finally,to summarize and reflect on the study and to explore the usefulness and significance of the findings for social work practice to improve the overall service approach and service effectiveness of the current professional social workers in China in terms of enhancing the professional self-efficacy of the new generation of seafarers. |
