The hidden dropout problem in basic education and the phenomenon of difficult access to higher education reflect the issue of educational equity.After ensuring starting point fairness,education increasingly pursues process fairness and result fairness.Education implementation is related to the long-term development of a country.Education attainment is related to individual lifelong achievements,and education expectations are effective indicators for predicting education attainment.Exploring the relationship between adolescent education expectations,family socioeconomic status,and social capital can help families,schools,society,and the government exert efforts from a precise perspective,enhance the effectiveness of dropout control and school insurance,enhance the effectiveness and smoothness of education implementation,assist students in obtaining higher education,promote intergenerational mobility of education,and promote equitable development of education.This study is based on the expectation theory,social capital theory,and status acquisition model,and combines the analysis of relevant studies to construct an intermediary model.Through descriptive analysis,T-test,correlation analysis,and intermediary effect testing,it gradually analyzes the intermediary effect of family social capital between family socio-economic status and adolescent education expectations.Using the 2018 Chinese Family Tracking Survey data,the study took 2470 adolescents aged 10-15 years as the research object,with family socioeconomic status as the independent variable,adolescent education expectations as the dependent variable,and relational social capital and cognitive social capital as intermediary variables.Using SPSS 26.0 statistical software,the data was analyzed and the following conclusions were reached:1.Parents’ educational expectations are higher than adolescents’ educational expectations.2.There are significant gender and household differences in adolescent education expectations.Male students have significantly lower educational expectations than female students,and agricultural registered adolescents have lower educational expectations compared to non agricultural registered adolescents.3.There are significant household and ethnic differences in family social capital,and there are significant differences in cognitive and relational social capital in both household and ethnic groups.Non agricultural registered adolescents have more relational social capital and cognitive social capital than agricultural registered adolescents,and the household differences in relational social capital are greater than those in cognitive social capital;Han adolescents have more relational and cognitive social capital than ethnic minorities.4.Family socioeconomic status significantly affects adolescents’ educational expectations.The higher the educational level of parents and the per capita net income of families,the higher the adolescents’ educational expectations;Cognitive social capital and relational social capital play a chain mediating role between family socioeconomic status and adolescents’ educational expectations.
