| Vocational education is an indispensable type of education that not only contributes to the high-quality development of the country’s economy and society,but also meets the educational needs of a category of people to grow and become successful.As the cornerstone of vocational education,secondary vocational education is the key foundation for building a modern vocational education system.In recent years,with economic and social development,the state has gradually broadened the pathways for secondary vocational students,accelerated the diversification and diversification of secondary vocational education,and changed from a single "employment-oriented" education to a dual-channel one that emphasises both employment and further education.The development of secondary vocational education The new mission of secondary vocational education is not only the top-level design of accelerating the construction of a modern vocational education system,but also the realistic need for secondary school students to grow upward under the concept of lifelong education,and the urgent demand for high-level technical and skilled talents and innovative composite talents for the upgrading of industrial structure.With the emergence of systems such as the expansion of higher vocational education and the VET college entrance examination,secondary school students have been able to improve their fairness in accessing higher education opportunities,but the differences and unevenness of cultural capital among different social classes in China have become more and more prominent.Therefore,this study explores the influence of family cultural capital on secondary school students’ willingness to go on to higher education from the perspective of family cultural capital.Based on Bourdieu’s theory of cultural reproduction,this study selected eight secondary vocational schools in five regions of Jiangxi Province as the research objects by cluster random sampling method,and 650 valid questionnaires were finally collected.Empirical analysis with three forms of family cultural capital as independent variables,and willingness to secondary vocational students ahead as the dependent variable,to educational expectation as the intermediary variables to establish research model,by conducting descriptive,difference,correlation and regression analyses on the data with the help of the statistical software SPSS 26.0,and by using the Process plug-in to conduct a mediating effect analysis,the relationship between family cultural capital,educational expectations and secondary school students’ willingness to pursue higher education was explored.The main research conclusions are as follows:1.The overall level of family cultural capital of secondary school students is moderately low,while the levels of family institutionalized and family objectified cultural capital are not very different and are both lower than the overall average,and the average value of family specific cultural capital is the highest.The mean value of family specific cultural capital was the highest.There were significant differences between the three dimensions of family cultural capital of secondary school students in both the advanced and non-advanced groups.2.The overall level of educational expectations of secondary school students was moderately high,and the mean value of self-education expectations was higher than the mean value of parental education expectations.There were significant differences between the education expectation dimensions of secondary school students in both the further education and non-further education groups.3.The overall performance of secondary school students’ willingness to go on to higher education was relatively positive and there were significant differences in the control variables of secondary school students’ willingness to go on to higher education in terms of gender,grade,family residence and academic performance.4.All dimensions of family cultural capital have a significant positive effect on secondary school students’ intention to pursue higher education;family cultural capital has a significant positive effect on educational expectations,among which institutionalized family cultural capital does not have a significant effect on parents’ educational expectations;all dimensions of educational expectations have a significant positive effect on secondary school students’ intention to pursue higher education.5.Educational expectation plays a partly mediating role between family cultural capital and secondary school students’ intention to go on to higher education.That is,the influence of family cultural capital on secondary school students’ intention to pursue higher education is partly indirectly influenced through educational expectation,and the mediating effect accounts for 35.65%,indicating a significant mediating role. |
