| The report of the 20 th Party Congress states,"Extensively carry out fitness activities for all, strengthen youth sports, promote the comprehensive development of mass sports and competitive sports, and accelerate the building of a strong sports nation." Children aged 5-6,as the reserve force for our future development, play a pivotal role in building a strong sporting nation. The level of motor development of large muscle groups will have a direct impact on the future growth and life of children.A number of important departments, including the General Administration of Sports, the Ministry of Education, the Central Civilisation Office and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, have jointly issued the Youth Physical Activity Promotion Plan, which aims to improve the quality of children’s physical activity and promote physical health. At the same time, the National Education Bureau officially released the "Curriculum Standards for Physical Education and Health in Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)",which emphasises the need to improve students’ motor skills and boost the development of motor abilities.Various sports programmes in China are flourishing, such as the new Happy Gymnastics programme launched in 2014,which is rich in content and fun, fully absorbing the fine traditions formed by over sixty years of gymnastics in China as well as the valuable experience of its predecessors, passing on the classics and pushing the boundaries. This paper therefore investigates the effects of an 18-week Happy Gymnastics intervention on the development of large muscle groups in children aged 5-6 years, with the aim of promoting the overall development of children’s physical and mental health. The study used literature, expert interviews,Delphi, experimental, video observation and mathematical statistics to conduct a specific study with 26 children aged 5-6 years old from the Gymnastics Club of Wuhan Institute of Physical Education as the experimental group and 32 children aged 5-6 years old from Blue Sky Kindergarten as the control group. The main findings were: Happy Gymnastics had a significant effect on the motor development of large muscle groups in 5-6 year old children, with displacement skills having a greater effect than manipulation skills;the regular kindergarten programme had a certain degree of effect on the motor development of large muscle groups in 5-6 year old children, but the improvement effect was not significant;there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in terms of intervention effect.Suggestions: In the future, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools should develop more activities with a high level of physical activity participation and comprehensive and targeted exercise effects, and can make a big effort to promote happy gymnastics in schools. In addition, when designing the intervention programme,we can try to study the movements of large muscle groups and fine movements, consider the overall movement development level of the subjects, combine different sports, increase the age range and number of subjects or different geographical indicators and other initiatives. |
