A Comparative Study On The Setting Of "Equation And Inequality" Examples And Exercises In Junior Middle School Mathematics Textbook

The arrangement of examples and exercises in mathematics textbooks is not only used to impart new knowledge,but also to test the mastery of new knowledge of students,which can help students to consolidate and apply new knowledge better.Therefore,the study of examples and exercises in junior middle school mathematics textbooks is essential.From the four aspects of arrangement,quantity,type and difficulty of examples and exercises,this paper uses literature research method,comparative analysis method,case study method and quantitative analysis method to analyze the characteristics of examples and exercises setting of "Equations and Inequalities" in the junior middle school mathematics textbooks of People’s Education Press and Beijing Normal University Press,and to compare their similarities and differences.This paper is divided into the following six chapters:The first chapter is the introduction,which focuses on the background of the chosen topic,the significance of the study,the research ideas,the research framework and provides an in-depth analysis of the research methodology.The second chapter is a literature review,which mainly sorts out the relevant literature reviewed in three aspects: comparative research on different editions of junior middle school mathematics textbooks,research on mathematical examples and exercises,and research on "Equations and Inequalities".The third chapter provides a superficial comparison of the textbook examples and exercises,starting with a comparative analysis of the chapter layout of the two editions of "Equations and Inequalities",followed by a comparative analysis of the layout,number and types of examples and exercises in the two editions of the textbook.The fourth chapter provides a deeper comparison of the textbook examples and exercises and an in-depth analysis of the five levels of difficulty factors of the "Equations and Inequalities" examples and exercises in the two editions of the junior middle school mathematics textbooks based on a comprehensive difficulty model of the examples and exercises.The fifth chapter is a questionnaire analysis,in which some junior middle school teachers in different regions of G Province were selected as the respondents to investigate the current situation of front-line teachers’ knowledge of the "Equations and Inequalities" examples and exercises and to conduct statistical analysis on them.The sixth chapter is the research conclusion and reflection,which summarises the content of the whole paper,draws conclusions and reflects on the research shortcomings of the paper.In summary,the comparative analysis leads to the following conclusions:(1)In terms of the table of contents,the Beijing Normal University Press textbook is more detailed and focuses more on the exploration and application of knowledge;the table of the People’s Education Press textbook is more general,but focuses more on the connection of knowledge points.(2)In terms of the number of sample problems,the total number of problems in both editions of the junior middle school mathematics textbook "Equations and Inequalities" is reasonable,in line with the policy of "Reducing the Burden" proposed by the Ministry of Education for junior middle schools,but the total number of problems in Beijing Normal University Press textbook is slightly more than that in the People’s Education Press textbook.(3)In terms of the types of examples and exercises,the textbook of Beijing Normal University Press pays more attention to the introduction of problems and uses more problem strings to guide students than the People’s Education Press textbook;the People’s Education Press textbook focuses more on the basic knowledge than the Beijing Normal University Press textbook.(4)From the analysis of the comprehensive difficulty model based on the examples and exercises,the examples and exercises in the Beijing Normal University Press textbook are more prominent in terms of the difficulty factor of the cognitive level,with more emphasis on the investigation of knowledge,which helps to develop junior middle school students’ sense of innovation and application;the examples and exercises in the the People’s Education Press textbook are more prominent in terms of the difficulty factor of reasoning and knowledge content,with higher requirements for students’ ability to cross-apply different knowledge points and more emphasis on developing students’ logical reasoning ability this helps students to master and flexibly apply their mathematical knowledge.
