The "Information Technology Curriculum Standards(2022 Edition)" advocates a project-driven approach to enhancing students’ problem-solving abilities.Despite relevant policy deployments, the application effect of project-based learning in basic education has not met expectations and has not yet penetrated into the information technology discipline of primary school.Due to the lack of in-depth understanding of project-based learning by many information technology teachers and the need for improvement in teaching methods, the formalization of project-based learning models has also hindered the cultivation of problem-solving abilities in primary school students. Therefore, this study integrates project-based learning with information technology courses to improve the project-based learning model, cultivate the problem-solving ability of primary school students, and respond to the new requirements of the country for the cultivation of innovative talents. This study first conducted a literature review on problem-solving ability and project-based learning.By clarifying the connotation of problem-solving ability,we aim at improve the problem-solving ability system of primary school students in information technology courses, and design questionnaires based on this.Secondly,in order to truly understand the implementation of project-based learning in primary school information technology courses and the situation of elementary school students’ problem-solving abilities,a field survey was conducted. After investigation,it was found that teachers do not have a clear understanding of the design of project-based learning and the methods for detecting students’ learning outcomes, and there are still some shortcomings in the implementation of the design and evaluation stages; In addition, students’ problem-solving abilities are generally low,and teachers’ understanding of the concept, ability composition, cultivation methods, and evaluation methods of problem-solving abilities remains in a basic state, without conducting in-depth research, and teachers’ awareness of problem-solving ability cultivation is insufficient. These shortcomings provide a practical basis and direction for the subsequent construction of project-based learning mode to cultivate the problem-solving ability of primary school students. Therefore, under the guidance of constructivist learning theory, cooperative learning theory, humanistic learning theory, and problem solving theory, this research builds a primary school information technology project-based learning model based on the four dimensions of primary school students’ problem solving ability system, namely, putting forward and understanding problems, analyzing and planning problems, communicating and solving problems, summarizing and reflecting problems, and combining the characteristics of primary school information technology projects, this model includes three stages and six implementation stages. The three stages are project design, project implementation, and project evaluation; The six implementation stages are interconnected and all aim at cultivate elementary school students’ problem-solving abilities. Finally,To test the effectiveness of project-based learning model based on information technology courses to cultivate elementary school students’ problem-solving ability, this study conducted a quasi experimental study, selecting two fifth grade classes of J Primary School in Guangzhou as the research subjects. The experimental class was taught to project-based learning, while the control class was taught the original teaching method.By comparing and analyzing students’ problem-solving abilities through pre and post tests,project-based learning record forms, student work analysis,teacher-student interview results, and classroom observation,we test whether students’ problem-solving abilities have developed. The results indicate that the project-based learning model based on information technology courses to cultivate primary school students’ problem-solving ability has a significant effect on their problem-solving ability. However, due to factors such as short practical time, there are still some shortcomings in this study. In actual teaching,it is also necessary to continuously adjust and modify according to the actual situation, and to further improve the project-based learning model based on information technology courses to cultivate students’ problem-solving abilities.
