| The healthy growth of teenagers is the cornerstone of a nation’s vigorous development.The state attaches great importance to the implementation of health education in schools,which serves as an important means to cultivate students’ healthy living concepts,teach them health-related knowledge,and guide the formation of healthy habits.However,the health education literacy of teachers,as a key factor affecting the effectiveness of school health education,has not received the attention it deserves.This situation not only hinders the effective implementation of health education in high schools but also hampers the professional development and growth of physical education and health teachers.Therefore,this research focuses on the high school physical education and health teachers in Yangjiang City,Guangdong Province,to study the current status of their health education literacy and explore pathways for improvement.The aim is to provide references for clear positioning of the goals for training high school physical education and health teachers,the scientific development of health education literacy,and the enhancement of health education teaching abilities.The research adopts methods such as literature review,surveys,mathematical statistics,and logical analysis to investigate the health education literacy of high school physical education and health teachers.A total of 10 high schools in Yangjiang City were visited during the survey,and the basic information of 117 physical education and health teachers from these schools was collected.A health education literacy survey questionnaire was distributed to these 117 teachers,and 102 valid responses were received,resulting in an effective response rate of 87.18%.After the survey,differential analyses were conducted to examine the health education literacy levels of teachers based on different factors.The problems existing in various aspects of health education literacy and the underlying reasons behind these problems were analyzed.Feasible strategies for enhancing health education literacy were also studied.The results indicate the following:Firstly,the research investigated the basic information of high school physical education and health teachers in Yangjiang City,revealing that the ratio of teachers to students and the educational level of the teaching staff need improvement.Secondly,based on the understanding of the basic information of high school physical education and health teachers in Yangjiang City,an investigation was conducted into their health education literacy.The results show that the overall level of health education literacy among these teachers is moderately high,with a higher level of health education philosophy than health education knowledge,and a higher level of health education knowledge than health education ability.Thirdly,differential analyses were conducted to explore the varying levels of health education literacy among high school physical education and health teachers in Yangjiang City under different factors.Age and years of teaching experience were found to have an impact on teachers’ health education knowledge and health education ability.Factors such as subject specialization,educational background,professional titles,school location,emphasis placed on health education by the school,frequency of health education training,frequency of scientific research activities,and the completeness of teacher evaluation and promotion systems all influence teachers’ health education philosophy,health education knowledge,and health education ability.Fourthly,based on the investigations into the basic information of high school physical education and health teachers,the current status of health education literacy,and the analysis of influencing factors,the problems and underlying causes of teachers’ health education literacy were analyzed.Specifically,the inadequate application of health education philosophy in professional practice is attributed to factors such as a low teacher-to-student ratio,insufficient emphasis on health education by schools,low frequency of health education training and scientific research activities,and the incomplete teacher evaluation and promotion system.Deficiencies in health education knowledge and health education ability include a lack of knowledge in mental health and disease prevention,as well as low abilities in safety and risk avoidance and disease prevention.The uneven professional backgrounds and lower educational levels of the high school physical education and health teacher workforce contribute to these problems.Finally,in response to the problems and reasons behind the health education literacy of high school physical education and health teachers in Yangjiang City,a path for improving teachers’ health education literacy is proposed.Namely,optimizing the teacher-student ratio of high school physical education and health teachers;Optimize the knowledge structure of high school physical education and health teachers;Optimize the educational structure of high school physical education and health teachers;Enhancing the importance of health education in schools;Increase the frequency of organizing school health education training and research activities;Improve the evaluation and promotion system for school physical education and health
