Abstract/Summary:
Teachers’ teaching skills will directly affect students’ attention allocation, classroom participation and concept understanding,so teaching skills training has always been regarded as an important part of normal university students’ education. However, there are some problems in the current teaching skills training of normal university students, such as less opportunities for field teaching, more restrictions on simulation teaching and imperfect training feedback. The continuous development of virtual reality technology provides a way to solve these problems and also brings new opportunities to improve the training quality of normal university students. With the gradual improvement of the accessibility of virtual reality technology,it has become an important research topic how to bring its advantages of high immersion, interaction and imaginativeness into the teaching skills training activities of normal university students. Therefore, this paper carries out an empirical study on the design and effect of virtual reality teaching skills training for normal university students.First of all,the literature related to teaching skills training and virtual reality is analyzed, and the obstacles existing in the teaching skills training of normal university students are summarized,as well as the potential advantages of virtual reality technology applied to the teaching skills training of normal university students. On the basis of experiential learning theory and situational learning theory, the design idea of virtual reality teaching skills training activity combining theory and practice is put forward.Taking the four stages of experiential learning as the core, namely "concrete experience","reflective observation","abstract concept" and "active practice",the whole course is designed from the four aspects of teaching objectives, teaching content, teaching strategies and teaching plans, and the practical training based on virtual reality is designed from the two aspects of activity process and teaching resources.Secondly,a teaching skill training activity based on virtual reality technology was implemented in a normal university. The study adopted a controlled experimental design, which divided 52 normal university students into two groups. The experimental group completed the training task in an immersive virtual reality environment, while the control group completed the training task in a traditional classroom, and carried out the experimental study lasting five weeks. Finally, the results of training and training process of virtual reality teaching skills training activities are tested. As far as the training results are concerned,a teaching skill evaluation gauge is developed, and teachers’ teaching skills are graded according to the pre-and post-test videos.Through the paired sample T-test and covariance analysis,it is found that:(1)after completing three virtual reality-based teaching skills training activities, normal university students’ teaching skills are significantly improved in the dimensions of personal ability, teaching method,teacher-student interaction and total score;(2)In terms of teaching method dimension and total score of teaching skills, virtual reality training activities are significantly better than traditional training activities;(3)There is no significant difference between virtual reality training activities and traditional training activities in the dimensions of personal ability and teacherstudent interaction. As far as the training process is concerned, the multi-modal discourse coding table of teaching skills training is compiled and coded according to the training process videos of normal university students.Through descriptive statistics and Multimodal Analysis Video visualization analysis, the research found that:(1)Normal university students successfully invoked the discourse resources of language, gesture, sight and tool mode in the virtual reality environment;(2)In language mode and visual mode, normal university students showed more awareness of teacher-student interaction in the process of virtual reality training;(3)In position mode and gesture mode, normal university students showed lower activity than traditional group in virtual reality training. The main contribution of this study is to provide an empirical basis for the development of virtual reality teaching skills training, indicating that virtual reality technology can achieve a high degree of restoration to the traditional training environment, effectively improve the teaching skills of normal university students, and the application of virtual students is conducive to improving the interactive willingness of normal university students in the training process. On the other hand,The hardware conditions limit the use of gestures and position movement of normal university students to some extent.
