During the Republic of China period,the country was facing difficulties both domestically and internationally.A group of patriotic figures proposed the slogan of "sports to save the country",with Zhang Zhijiang and others leading the way by proposing "national art to save the country",establishing educational institutions to cultivate teachers,and popularizing national art.The Central Guoshu Institute Sports College was one of the representatives.The sports education thought it publicized was of great significance at that time.This article uses the methods of literature review,logical analysis,and historical analysis to summarize Zhang Zhijiang’s physical education ideology,based on the teaching situation,teacher education practice,and student teaching achievements of Principal Zhang,National Sports Specialized School.It will be introduced in four parts:A sports value system that focuses on cultivating strong seeds to save the country,a sports science system that supports the scientific development of Chinese martial arts,a sports competition system that advocates the competitive development of Chinese martial arts,and a sports education system that values moral education.Principal Zhang Zhijiang first initiated the construction of a national sports specialized school and promoted this sports ideology in various sectors.The teaching of the National Sports Vocational School starts from the talent concept of the trinity of Chinese martial arts,sports,and military,as well as the curriculum concept of combining Chinese and Western elements.The school teachers also echo this physical education ideology,adhere to the talent cultivation mode of the trinity of Chinese martial arts,sports,and military,the curriculum concept of combining Chinese and Western elements,execute the school’s teaching tasks,compile Chinese martial arts textbooks,participate in Chinese martial arts competitions and performances,and promote patriotism.After graduation,students will continue this ideology of physical education in their respective fields,hold positions in schools and the military,and promote the transformation and popularization of traditional Chinese culture.Through the summary of the above contents,the characteristics of the physical education ideology of the National Sports College are to attach importance to practical functions,integrate Scientific theory,emphasize moral literacy,and attach importance to development and popularization.At the same time,analyze the social impact of this idea at that time,including promoting the popularization of traditional Chinese culture,promoting the unified movement of traditional Chinese culture,and continuing the debate on local and foreign sports.At the same time,it was also constrained by the political,economic,and cultural environment at that time,and its development was limited.The following conclusion is drawn:the physical education ideology of national sports colleges emphasizes both physical fitness and self-defense,the integration of traditional Chinese martial arts and sports,the coexistence of personal qualities and patriotism,and the simultaneous development of teacher training and competition promotion.Finally,some suggestions are given for the development of current physical education,adhering to the concept of social value orientation in physical education,emphasizing both martial arts and culture in teaching,integrating teaching,training,and scientific research in the cultivation of physical education teachers,and the concept of national fitness for self-defense.
