With the development of modern society, college students with high IQ are faced with various opportunities and challenges. However, freshmen have just come of age and are still in the core stage of psychological development.Negative life events tend to cause psychological imbalance in college students, which leads to depression.Social support, biological factors and other factors can also make individuals depressed mood. Therefore, college students in today’s environment are very vulnerable to depression. The theme of this study is to understand the impact of social support, life events and MAOA gene polymorphism on college students’ depression, and to analyze and discuss the relationship between social support, life events and depression.Based on the questionnaire method,539 freshmen from a university in hunan were selected as the subjects to complete the thesis topic analysis and argumentation data acquisition. The results show that the depression of freshmen in a university in hunan province can be effectively predicted by the interaction between life events and understanding social support. In terms of the score distribution of depressed and non-depressed college students, there were statistical differences between alleles and genotypes of rs3027407 and rs6323 MAOA gene polymorphisms, but the interaction between the MAOA gene rs3027407 and rs6323 and life events could not significantly predict the depression of college students.Based on the analysis of the influence of MAOA gene polymorphism, understanding of social support and life events on depression, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)the detection rate of depression among freshmen in a college in hunan province is 25.98%,and their learning pressure and interpersonal relationship are the main problems faced by freshmen. This explains the main reasons for their depression caused by academic and interpersonal pressure.(2)compared with the non-depressed freshmen in a college in hunan province, the depressed freshmen in the depression group had lower level of social support and were more likely to experience negative life events. This indicates that students with low awareness of social support are more likely to have negative emotions when faced with negative life events due to lack of external support, and thus develop depression.(3)this study shows that life events and understanding of social support can effectively predict depression, and the interaction between the health adaptation factor of life events and the polymorphism of MAOA gene rs3027407,as well as the interaction between understanding of social support and life events, interpersonal relationship factor and loss factor all have significant effects on depression. This indicates that the occurrence and development of depression are influenced by physiological and psychosocial factors. This is consistent with previous research results. The above conclusion indicates that the occurrence and development of college students’depression is related to various factors, and the society should conduct research from various aspects(physiological and social psychology)to understand the causes of college students’depression, and carry out effective prevention and treatment. The deficiency of this study is that the sample size is too small, only horizontal research is adopted, and systematic research is lacking.Large sample collection and analysis are not adopted for characteristic SNP sites. Therefore,on this basis, longitudinal research should be conducted on college students,so as to systematically understand the relationship between college students’ genetics, social stress and depression.
