The mathematical model,the method of applying mathematical knowledge,is used to solve various practical problems in the real world.Mathematical modeling refers to the process of solving these practical problems by establishing mathematical models.With the continuous deepening of curriculum reform in China,the status of mathematical modeling in senior high school teaching has gradually improved and has entered the new curriculum standard as an important core literacy.However,the study found that there were many difficulties in teaching activities of mathematical modeling in many regions and schools.For example,the shortage of teaching resources,the lack of teaching experience,the lack of students’ cooperation,etc.,and even some teachers have no idea about modeling teaching methods.Therefore,how to integrate mathematical modeling ideas into classroom teaching has become the focus of scholars.In China,there have been a lot of relevant studies on the integration of mathematical modeling ideas into high school mathematics teaching practice.The main body of mathematics classes is students,and the key of the above is how to quickly improve students’ mathematical modeling competence with the help of teachers.However,it is found that many scholars have only studied teaching strategies of mathematical modeling from the perspective of high school math knowledge but have ignored the adaptation between students’ competences and teaching strategies.Other studies have only focused on the overall performance of students in questionnaires or quizzes but have ignored the process evaluation of their mathematical modeling competences,which leads to a lack of research on students’ mathematical modeling sub-competences.To fully understand students’ modeling competences and formulate a more applicable plan,in this research,we first study the current situation of modeling teaching and explored students’ mathematical modeling self-efficacy and the real competence by the questionnaire and test paper.Then based on the analysis of the survey,a set of targeted teaching strategies is formulated combined with characteristics and stages of the development of students’ mathematical modeling abilities.Finally,teaching strategies obtained are applied to the real teaching practice.After a period of teaching,the students’ mathematical modeling competence is tested again with the help of post-test questions,and the effectiveness of the established teaching strategies is judged by comparing the differences of students’ modeling competences before and after the teaching intervention.The survey found that although most high school teachers are willing to carry out,the limitations of resources and curriculum settings have brought huge obstacles to the development of modeling teaching.Even if students have a strong sense of self-efficacy in their competences,their real competences are generally biased,which illustrates that their understanding of the difficulty of modeling is unclear.In this study,we design the teaching strategies from the aspects of the modeling training session,the improvement of the weakness of students’ mathematical modeling competence,and the teachers’ selfimprovement.After a short period of teaching,it is found that students’ average score in the post-test is significantly higher than that in the pre-test,and the mathematical modeling competence is improved to varying degrees.Overall,the most obvious improvement is the model hypothesis and model test sub-competences.Compared with the pre-test,students’ model building,model calculation and analysis competence have also improved to a certain extent,which shows that the teaching strategy developed in this study is effective although the development is not significant.Therefore,we know that high school teachers should not place all their hopes on the short-term teaching but should pay more attention to how to improve the traditional teaching methods and teaching plans to promote the integration of mathematical modeling ideas into curriculum teaching,and they should train students’ mathematical application competence in the long-term teaching.This research is conducted with the help of questionnaires and test questions.Combining with the teaching practice,the study discusses the method,strategy and effectiveness of cultivating students’ mathematical modeling competence and promoting the integration of its ideas into teaching practice,which has the certain help and reference for front-line teachers and educators in China.
