The Research Of Practicum Of Pre-service Teacher In Singapore

Practicum is the core element of teacher education in Singapore.It has experienced the embryonic formation stage driven by survival and the derivative development stage driven by quality and practice.After the National Institute of Education launched Teacher Education for 21 st Century Model,it has gradually moved to the core position of teacher education.That is,the development of practicum is in line with its teacher education.The practicum exists in the every programme of undergraduate,postgraduate and diploma education.The undergraduates should go through four stages: school experience,teaching assistantship,teaching I and teaching II.The postgraduates have non-final practicum and final practicum should be completed.The practicum is centered on reflection which strengthens the connection between theory and practice,and has a step-by-step nature in task and time arrangement.The Ministry of Education,National Institute of Education and Schools are jointly responsible for the organization and implementation of practicum.As a macro-control department,the Ministry of Education plays a role of direction.As the only teacher training institution in Singapore,the National Institute of Education plays a leading role in the practicum while schools are the main platform and base for practicum.The practicum’s evaluation criteria are comprehensive and detailed,the evaluation tools are diverse,and the evaluation procedures are standardized,which has ensured the export of practicum quality.The enlightenments brought to our country is: pay attention to the cultivation of pre-service teachers’ reflective ability,optimize the tasks and time arrangement of educational practice,strengthen the cooperation educational stakeholders,and build a practicum evaluation system guided by improving the professional ability of pre-service teachers.
