Research On The Influence Of Family Communication On Intergenerational Relations In The Era Of Social Media

At present,social media represented by wechat and Weibo are surging,constantly changing the ecological environment in which people receive information.However,such social media represented by wechat and Weibo as well as communication modes based on image symbols are constantly adopted in family communication,and the frequency of use is gradually increasing,thus affecting family relations,especially intergenerational relations.Then,in the context of social media,how will family communication change and how will its change affect family intergenerational relations? This paper discusses and analyzes the changes through questionnaires,in-depth interviews and literature.Theoretically,on the one hand,the "double connection" of family communication promotes the equality and harmony of intergenerational relations,because family communication weakens parental authority,meets the diverse needs of intergenerational emotion and promotes mutual understanding between generations.On the other hand,family communication in virtual space will bridge the intergenerational digital divide,because family communication will to some extent narrow the intergenerational differences in digital use skills,digital content exposure and digital cognition.According to the results of variance analysis of the questionnaire survey,gender does not affect the intergenerational relationship,but age is an important factor affecting the intergenerational relationship,and the offspring over 35 years old are relatively distant from each other.The parents over 60 years old were more distant.Place of residence and monthly income did not affect the intergenerational relationship,but family structure was an important factor affecting the intergenerational relationship,and the intergenerational relationship of nuclear families was closer than that of trunk families and three generations of lineal families.From the regression analysis results of the questionnaire survey,the duration of parent-child mobile phone conversation and the frequency and duration of wechat chat have a significant positive impact on the intergenerational relationship,the more the number of communication,the more harmonious parent-child relationship;Family communication motivations such as "acquiring identity","maintaining emotion" and "self-actualization" have significant positive effects on intergenerational relations.Parental communication motivation of "telling important things" also had a significant positive effect on intergenerational relations.The more social media is used in parent-child communication,the more positive development of intergenerational relationship is promoted.The more parent-child information about daily life is communicated,the more harmonious the intergenerational relationship is.The problems of family communication in promoting the improvement of intergenerational relations in the current social media era are mainly the lack of realistic communication between parents and children caused by family communication channels,the estrangement between parents and children caused by family communication symbols,and the formation of intergenerational conflicts caused by false family communication contents.The optimization measures and approaches are as follows: first,to expand the content of family communication to enhance intergenerational emotional communication;second,to enhance the communication ability of parental families to narrow the digital difference between generations;third,to improve the way of family communication to promote the harmony of intergenerational relations.
