Educational drama began in the West in the twentieth century and has since formed a relatively complete lineage in the United Kingdom and the United States.After educational drama was introduced to China,it was first applied to school education in Taiwan and Hong Kong,and later developed in the mainland.Through comprehensive analysis of previous studies,educational drama in teaching practice mainly suffers from teachers’ insufficient knowledge of educational drama and single form of educational drama teaching practice.Although many experts and scholars have investigated the use of educational drama in school teaching practice,there are fewer studies that propose corresponding improvement strategies based on the clarification of educational drama practice strategies and practice models.In order to deepen the understanding of the practical application of educational drama in high school language teaching,this paper mainly selects the corresponding investigation subjects in Shanghai,and tries to understand the current situation of the use of educational drama in high school language teaching.Based on all the studies,we propose strategies to improve the use of educational drama in high school language teaching from three aspects: teachers,students,and schools.The first chapter of this paper is about the definition of the concept of educational drama.There are two kinds of studies on the concept of educational drama in China,narrowly defined and integrated.The second chapter illustrates the connection between educational drama and language subjects.The rich connotation and practicality of educational drama reflect the instrumental and humanistic qualities of language subjects,and the special characteristics of language subjects create an excellent teaching environment for the penetration of educational drama in language reading.This makes it a good pedagogical method for language teaching and learning,which can help students enhance their learning experience in integrated practice and help them understand the text deeply while developing their thinking.Chapter 3,based on theoretical analysis,uses questionnaires and interviews to conduct a practical survey,and analyzes the results of the survey.The main problems in school education include teachers’ insufficient knowledge of educational drama,single form of teaching practice,and neglect of students’ individuality.Chapter 4 summarizes and concludes the common teaching strategies and teaching models of educational drama in school practice.Chapter 5 proposes corresponding strategies to improve the application of educational drama in schools based on the identified problems,i.e.,teachers change their teaching concepts and improve their teaching skills,schools take into account the type of curriculum and develop ways to use it,and meet students’ needs and develop their personalities,in order to provide some help and inspiration to educators in schools.At a time when research on the use of educational drama in specific disciplines is being emphasized,research on its application in high school language reading teaching is important both in terms of enriching educational drama theory and improving teaching practice.
