The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China includes national security as a separate subject for the first time, reflecting the importance and concern of the Central Committee of the Party for national security. The National Security Education Guidelines for Primary and Secondary Schools also clearly stipulate that "national security education should be integrated into the teaching of all subjects".Therefore,it is imperative to integrate national security education into the teaching of high school geography. This paper adopts various methods such as literature research method, questionnaire survey method, data analysis method and educational practice method, based on an in-depth understanding of the research related to the integration of national security education into high school geography teaching, analyses the current situation of national security education implementation in high school geography from both students and teachers, integrates and analyses the existing problems, explores national security-related teaching cases in geography textbooks, explores strategies to strengthen students’ national security awareness in high school geography teaching, and explores the national security awareness of students in high school geography teaching. The main findings of the study are as follows.(1)The research background and significance of integrating national security education into high school geography teaching were analysed, domestic and foreign literature was reviewed to summarise the research progress and research results, and the research content and research methods were determined.(2)The current situation, problems and causes of integrating national security education into high school geography teaching in Nanchang were investigated and analysed, and it was concluded that the level of national security education carried out in high school geography teaching was low due to factors such as class time constraints, promotion and examinations, and teachers’ cultivation of students’ national security awareness had problems such as unclear teaching objectives, lack of evaluation criteria and lack of operable teaching strategies and reference cases.(3)Strategies for implementing national security education are proposed from the perspectives of geography teachers, curriculum resource development and schools.Geography teachers can strengthen national security education by clarifying the teaching objectives of national security education, making clever use of the "1+X" teaching method and establishing an evaluation mechanism;from the perspective of curriculum resource development, they can strengthen the development of local geography courses, enhance the infiltration of the implicit geography curriculum in national security schools and organise geography field trips for national security education. At the school level,we can start by strengthening professional training for teachers in national security education, accelerating the construction of national security internet sites, and conducting special lectures to create a good atmosphere for national security education.(4)Using "Earth’s Cosmic Environment" and "Major Environmental Problems Facing Humanity" as examples,we designed teaching cases and used SPSS27.0 to analyse data to understand the changes in students’ national security awareness and ability. The results show that the students’ national security awareness and ability to maintain national security in the experimental class were better than those in the control class, and the results of the study can provide practical experience and teaching reference for high school geography teachers to carry out national security education.
