In the context of Chinese path to modernization, the dichotomy between urban and rural areas has been gradually broken, and peasants are constantly moving to cities in developed areas through employment and schooling, becoming "new citizens" in cities. As a concomitant problem of rapid industrialization and urbanization, the education of children of new citizens has gradually come to the fore.It is a matter of people’s livelihood and well-being to solve the various problems brought about by population migration and to meet the various needs of the huge number of children of new citizens. This paper focuses on the school adjustment of new citizen children in developed regions. For the children of new citizens, middle school is a critical period for their personality and ability development, which has a profound impact on their future development.Good school adjustment can be a solid foundation for new citizen children to receive higher education and even to enter the society, while poor adjustment can significantly affect their learning gains and physical and mental health, thus seriously limiting their future individual development. This paper uses a qualitative and quantitative approach to investigate the school adjustment of new citizen children. The study was conducted in ten junior high schools in Wuxi, where the children of new citizens are concentrated.2706 questionnaires were distributed, and 2663 valid questionnaires were collected, including 1233 for the children of new citizens and 1430 for the local children.A multidimensional analysis of the school adjustment situation of new citizen children and the factors affecting their school adjustment was conducted, and combined with the interview results,it was found that the school adjustment level of new citizen children in the eastern developed regions was better overall, but their scores were significantly lower than those of local students in both the overall situation and the dimensions of school adjustment. The reasons for the significant differences between the school adjustment levels of new citizen children and local students can be summarized in the following five points: first, the education policies and related systems for new citizen children in the developed eastern region, such as Wuxi, are not yet perfect and not properly implemented, resulting in insufficient social support from the government, which is the reason for the differences at the institutional level;second, new citizen children in the campus Third, the lack of cultural capital in the families of new citizen children, inappropriate parenting style, and lack of effective communication between parents and children are the reasons at the family level;fourth, the low level of community education, which does not play a good role in nurturing people,is the reason at the community level;fifth, the children of new citizens generally Fifth, new citizen children generally do not have a high level of self-awareness,self-regulation ability and self-adaptation,which are the reasons for the differences at the individual level. The question of how to effectively improve the school adjustment level of new citizen children is a new and necessary question of the times.Based on this, this study suggests that:at the institutional level, the education management system should be reformed, the educational layout should be scientifically planned, and the integrated development of urban and rural education should be accelerated;at the school level, the educational philosophy should be actively changed,"people-oriented" and "student-oriented" should be emphasized, and a pluralistic and integrated campus environment should be created;at the school level,a pluralistic and integrated campus environment should be created,At the family level,we should strengthen family education guidance, enhance the depth and breadth of home-school cooperation, and implement family education responsibilities;at the community level,we should explore the educational attributes of the community, bring into play the educational functions of the community, and promote the formation of the trinity of "family, school, and community".At the individual level,we need to help improve the self-perception ability of new citizens’ children, improve their self-perception bias, guide them to learn to use the surrounding social support resources and actively build a self-support system.
