Performance Analysis Of Top Professional Golfers On The Pga Tour From 2012 To 2021

The construction of a strong sports nation has entered a new period,which has put forward new requirements for the development of the competitive level of golf in China.In order to realize the high-quality development of high-level golf in China and enhance the international competitiveness,this paper takes the competitive performance of the top professional players on the PGA TOUR in the 2012-2021 seasons as the research object and adopts the research methods of literature,expert interview,expert survey,mathematical and statistical method and logical analysis.Six skill indicators,five scoring indicators and four outcome indicators were selected for correlation analysis,in addition to an improved set of skill indicators obtained by drawing on the AK model;annual trends in the weighting of skill elements were analyzed based on three perspectives: strokes gained,skill wining and skill earnings;and an exploratory analysis of potential factors influencing the mental ability and cross-period competitive performance of top professional players on the PGA TOUR was conducted.The following conclusions were drawn.1.Among the skill performance of top players on the PGA TOUR,driving distance,sand save percentage and putting average showed significant improvement after ten seasons.13%-21% of driving distance,driving accuracy percentage,sand save percentage,scrambling and putting average could be explained by other skill indicators and individual characteristic indicators,while greens in regulation percentage reached 40%.2.The low score performance of the top players on the PGA TOUR depends mainly on putting and long game at the skill level,with strong and powerful hitting distance accounting for more of the long game and less accuracy.The top players on the PGA TOUR can reduce their bogey performance by having a balanced and comprehensive technical ability.3.Par 4 score and bogey reduction are more important to the athletic performance of top players on the PGA TOUR,and the impact of technical play on athletic performance and earnings is ranked from largest to smallest: putting > long game > short game.4.The technical advantages of the top players on the PGA TOUR are highlighted in approach the green;the impact of each skill performance relative to athletic performance and prize money income shows a quarterly dynamic change,with putting and driving distance being the most important skill elements.5.In the high-level competitive environment of the PGA TOUR 2012-2021 season,the mental resilience of top players shown a large polarization.The change of the PGA TOUR’s regular promotion mechanism to a sub-tour may have advantages and disadvantages for the new generation of players;the PGA TOUR players’ entry choices and risk strategies are influenced by a variety of factors,with the top players making more decisions in the interest of their competitiveness.Suggestion: Based on the PGA TOUR shotlink system,it realizes the tracking and analysis of top players’ cross-period competitive performance and its potential factors,which is conducive to providing reference for the development of China’s high-level golf game and the enhancement of international competitiveness,and should be further researched and promoted for application.
