| The report of the 20 th Party Congress proposes to inherit the excellent Chinese traditional culture and comprehensively promote the revitalisation of the countryside.Ancient villages and towns are an important part of traditional Chinese culture and have a unique regional culture.Preserving ancient villages and towns has historical value and practical significance, but with the accelerated urbanisation process, many ancient villages and towns are in danger of being destroyed and disappearing. The protection and development of ancient villages and towns has thus become a hot issue in society. The case study,Qingyan, once known as a "kaleidoscope" of ancient towns,is a typical example of culture-driven tourism development, but now it has fallen into a circle of "homogenisation" and many social problems have arisen. In order to clarify the root causes of the problem, this study uses literature, field observation, questionnaires and in-depth interviews to collect data, based on theories of spatial production and social action, and analyses the objectives and action strategies of the stakeholders involved in tourism development at different stages of tourism development from the micro perspective of "space-actor",focusing on revealing The analysis focuses on the impact of the interactive behaviours and the pattern of interest relations formed during the period of rapid tourism development on the community construction and tourism development of Qingyan Ancient Town.During the initial exploration period of tourism development, development practices based on the preservation of the local culture of the ancient town played a role as an endogenous force to a certain extent, but due to the limited development momentum, capital and market forces were introduced into the field of interaction, and the rapid development of tourism was accompanied by an unbalanced pattern of disparate power due to the inequality in culture, resources and status of the various stakeholders. The government and the tourism companies, with their highly aligned interests, form a conspiracy to act together in the production of tourism space.Social power is compressed by the powerful and capital, while members of society struggle against the administrative power that is to some extent biased towards capital and the market, ignoring the agency and democratic participation of the native population. The results of the study found that the process of interaction of interest subjects reshaped the spatial form of the ancient town, while the imbalanced pattern of interaction reinforced the unidirectional spatial production model, affecting the subjectivity of residents and the sustainability of local culture. Therefore, based on the above analysis, this study argues that Qingyan should firstly reshape the sense of community, break away from the limitations of tourism and focus on the community and the residents themselves, and accordingly proposes to clarify the property rights of cultural heritage and establish a mechanism of mutual trust in the community in order to break the dilemma of community governance."In addition, breaking the previous dichotomy between ’tourism’ and ’community’,this study advocates a new spatial production model that realises two-way interaction between local strengths and external forces, bringing together key actors, stage leaders and local participants to promote the sustainable development of Qingyan Ancient Town under a comprehensive approach to tourism development, community building, the enhancement of residents’ subjectivity and the rational conservation of the town’s local culture. It also provides some lessons for similar ancient villages and towns in how to deal with the relationship between conservation and development. |
