Farmers’ farmland transfer behavior is the process of optimal allocation of production factors of farmland. With the implementation of the new round of farmland titling in China, whether the further strengthening of the stability of farmland property rights will have an impact on farmers’ farmland disposal behavior. The study of this issue also fits in with the No.1 document of the Central Government in 2023,which proposes to strengthen the protection and use control of farmland and increase the utilization of abandoned farmland.Based on 505 farm household field research data from 2020-2021,this paper explores the relationship between farmland property rights stability and farmland disposal in different dimensions using a binary logit model, and adds the mediating variable,non-farm employment,to explore the mechanism of its influence. The findings are as follows:(1)Both the factual and cognitive dimensions of farmland property rights significantly contribute to farm households’ switching out behavior toward farmland. It indicates that with the continuous stabilization of farmland property rights, farmland will be clustered to more productive places.(2)Non-farm employment plays a partly mediating role in the stabilization of farmland property rights and farmland switching out in the factual dimension, with a mediating effect of0.39%,while there is no mediating effect in the cognitive dimension. It indicates that the factual dimension of farmland property rights stability better reflects the influence of farm households on their farmland transfer behavior through non-farm employment than the cognitive dimension.(3)The cross-sectional variable of farmland security and farmland ownership attribution, farmland property rights intensity, positively promotes farmland switching out behavior at the 5% significance level. It further verifies the important role of farmland property rights stability on farmers’ behavioral decisions.(4)There are significant heterogeneity characteristics among farm households, and differences in farm household head generation, type, and form of part-time work all lead to differences in farmland switching out among farm households. It indicates that farmers’ behavior is based on their actual household situation, comprehensive consideration, and finally make behavioral decisions different from other household situations. Finally, according to the conclusion of the study,we conclude and put forward corresponding suggestions in a targeted manner: firstly,to improve the finalization of farmland rights and lay the foundation for farmland transfer;secondly,to strengthen the efficacy of farmland property rights certificates and provide protection for non-farm employment of farm households;thirdly,to establish and improve the farmland transfer market and strengthen the construction of high-standard farmland;fourthly,to improve the rural social security mechanism and promote the efficient connection between urban and rural social security.
