| With the improvement of socio-economic level and residents’ living standards, the average life expectancy of China’s population continues to extend.Maintaining physical and mental health after entering the elderly stage has become an inevitable demand for most families and elderly people, and it is also a necessary requirement to promote "healthy aging" in the context of an aging society. Therefore,in recent years, with the increasing demand for elderly health care, the market for elderly healthcare consumption has also been expanding. However,on the one hand, due to the imperfect management system of the healthcare market, and on the other hand, due to the lack of sufficient healthcare knowledge among the elderly themselves, there are consumption misconceptions and problems in some elderly people’s healthcare consumption behavior, which has led to some elderly people’s healthcare consumption fraud and consumer rights infringement, and has attracted attention from all sectors of society to elderly healthcare consumption. To understand the stage characteristics and influencing factors of healthcare consumption behavior among elderly people in China, this study conducted a random sampling questionnaire survey on 1007 elderly people in three cities, and conducted qualitative interviews with 20 elderly people and staff related to healthcare consumption management. The results of empirical research found that: firstly, the health consumption behavior of the elderly mainly presents multiple complex consumption characteristics, such as strong health needs, lack of awareness of safety and rights protection, stable and frugal consumption as the mainstream, and emotional and economic consumption intertwined.Secondly, there are differences in the influencing factors of the five stages of elderly healthcare consumption behavior: women, married individuals, those with high life satisfaction, and those with higher family economic conditions present positive cognitive needs;Elderly people living in C city, with high income, high education, and chronic diseases have a significant positive attitude towards health information collection;Elderly people with high income and high education exhibit positive evaluation choices;Elderly people with high income, marriage, chronic diseases, and higher family economic conditions have a more obvious purchasing tendency, and the positive impact of age on purchasing health products or services shows a trend of first increasing and then decreasing;Elderly people living in P city and with higher family economic conditions exhibit a positive tendency towards post purchase evaluation.Thirdly, there are issues with elderly healthcare consumption behavior, such as cognitive demand bias, strong passivity in information collection, lack of safety considerations in evaluation choices, incomplete satisfaction of needs, and potential infringement risks after purchase.Based on the social consensus of healthy aging, this study proposes relevant suggestions for the joint governance of elderly healthcare consumption issues by multiple entities from the perspectives of the elderly, their families, healthcare related enterprises, communities, and governments. This includes guiding the elderly to form a scientific healthcare concept and consumer safety awareness, promoting emotional support and reasonable consumption guidance from families Strengthen the promotion, guidance, and management service functions of community health care, encourage healthcare related enterprises to assume social responsibility, strengthen innovative research and development, and promote the establishment of a sound healthcare industry standard system and regulatory system by the government,in order to promote the healthy development of elderly healthcare consumption and the continuous improvement of the elderly health service system, and promote the active implementation of healthy aging. |
