As the aging population deepens,average life expectancy increases,and the size of the elderly population expands,the issue of elderly care has become an urgent and significant topic in our country.The continued socialization of urban elderly individuals is crucial for their swift transition of social roles,smooth reintegration into urban society,and the enjoyment of a happy and fulfilling later life.Participation in the university of the elderly is an essential pathway for urban elderly individuals to achieve continued socialization.Thus,exploring the connection between participation in the university of the elderly and continued socialization among urban elderly individuals,understanding the basic trends of their participation in the university of the elderly and continued socialization,and investigating the influence mechanisms of participation in the university of the elderly on their continued socialization have strong theoretical and practical significance.Under the framework of active aging,taking activities in university of the third age serve as one of the social participation activities that provide educational opportunities for elderly individuals,playing a vital role in promoting peer interaction,learning new knowledge,and enhancing new abilities.This paper adopts a combination of literature review and empirical research methods,constructs an evaluation system for the continued socialization of urban elderly individuals through literature review,and uses the participation of elderly individuals in senior universities as the entry point.A total of 595 elderly individuals in Xi’an were selected as questionnaire survey participants,divided into two groups: 295 elderly individuals participating in universities of the third age as the experimental group and 300 elderly individuals not participating in the universities as the control group.Additionally,14 university students and 2 senior university staff members were selected as interviewees.The study combined questionnaire surveys and structured interviews to analyze the impact of participating in senior university activities on the continued socialization of urban elderly individuals.The research results show that:(1)there is a significant difference in the continued socialization status between urban elderly individuals who participate in senior universities and those who do not,with the former having a significantly better continued socialization status;(2)participating in senior universities has a significantly positive impact on various continued socialization indicators for urban elderly individuals,such as interpersonal relationship socialization,role socialization,value socialization,and behavior mode socialization;(3)heterogeneity characteristics within the elderly student population affect their continued socialization status,with features such as overall younger age and better health promoting their continued socialization.To facilitate the smooth realization of continued socialization for elderly individuals,it is necessary to vigorously promote their active engagement in social participation activities,with the government,families,and individuals working together to expand the social participation space for elderly individuals and jointly enhance their social participation capabilities,creating a favorable atmosphere for promoting continued socialization among elderly individuals throughout society.
