| Critical media literacy education has been repeatedly mentioned during the pandemic and in recent years when disinformation has been rampant.This study explores the feasibility of carrying out the embedded practice of critical media literacy education in China by using the five dimensions of "critical consumption" and "critical prosumption" in the New Media Literacy framework proposed by Chen,Lin et al.,that is,analysis,synthesis,evaluation,participation,and creation.Through bibliographic method,survey method,and design-based research,this study implemented three rounds of teaching iterations with a total of 50 participants in the S University,followed the ADDIE principle of instructional design,and analyzed the needs of learners with interviews as the starting point,and found that learners have more media consumption and fewer media prosumption willingness and behavior;Synthesis and evaluation require more scientific methods and skills,and participation and creation stages require more willingness and inspiration.Based on this,this study integrates the four mainstream media literacy education paradigms in history,the teaching principles,methods,and best practices proposed by the Media Literacy Center and the National Association for Media Literacy Education,as well as the research results of various literature,and designs,develops,implements and evaluates three rounds of teaching iterations.The paired-sample T-test for the results of the three rounds of pre-and post-iteration questionnaires showed that learners’ analysis,synthesis,evaluation,participation,and creation were improved.This study makes the following teaching recommendations: 1)choose the media materials that are most relevant to the interests of learners;2)the establishment of attitudes and intentions is a prerequisite for media participation and creation;and 3)the development of good daily media habits should start with enlightenment.This study practices and improves the critical dimension of the new media literacy framework,carries out the embedded practice of critical media literacy education,and explores the specific implementation path of foreign media literacy education methods in China. |
