| In the contemporary educational environment of China, parents’ anxiety about their children’s education had became a common social phenomenon, which had not only aroused extensive social discussion, but also attracted the attention of researchers.Parents’ education anxiety refers to the complex emotional state such as tension, anxiety, worry caused by the uncertainty of the educational process and results, which is reflected in excessive panic about their children’s learning opportunities, academic achievements and employment prospects. At present, the research on parents’ education anxiety was in the initial stage, most of which are simple comments and analyzed on parents’ education anxiety, lacked empirical research, and seldom examined the influence of parents’ education anxiety on children’s academic development. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the basic characteristics of parents’ education anxiety, the relationship between parents’ education anxiety and students’ academic performance, and further explore its mechanism. This study used questionnaire by primary school(grade 5 and 6)and junior middle school students and their parents.we applied the education anxiety scale reported by parents to measure parents’ education anxiety level, and the parental academic pressure scale, parental academic involvement scale and academic achievement self-rating scale reported by children to measure parents’ academic pressure level, parental academic involvement level and academic achievement level.SPSS 22.0 and Process program were used to analyze the data statistically. The results and conclusions indicated that:(1)From the point of view of whether children were only or non-only child, the education anxiety level of parents of non-only children was significantly higher than that of parents of only children. From the perspective of grade, the education anxiety level of parents of junior high school students was significantly higher than that of parents of primary school students; From the perspective of children’s gender,no significant difference was found on the parents’ education anxiety level; From the perspective of urban and rural areas, the education anxiety level of rural parents was significantly higher than that of urban parents; From the perspective of parents’ education level, the education anxiety level of parents with low education level was significantly higher than that of parents with high education level. From the perspective of total family monthly income, the level of education anxiety of parents with low family monthly income was significantly higher than that of parents with high family monthly income.(2)There was a significant negative correlation between parents’ education anxiety and students’ academic achievement. The higher parents’ education anxiety possessed, the worse academic achievement students got.(3)Parents’ academic pressure and parents’ academic involvement played parallel mediating role in the relationship between parents’ education anxiety and students’ academic achievement.Specifically, parents’ education anxiety significantly and positively predicted parents’ academic pressure, while negatively predicted parents’ academic involvement, and indirectly negatively predicted students’ academic achievement. This results showed that parents’ education anxiety increased parents’ academic pressure, while reduced parents’ academic involvement, and then leaded to the decline of students’ academic achievement.(4)Urban and rural areas played a significant moderating role in the parallel mediating model that parents’ education anxiety affected students’ academic achievement through parents’ academic pressure and parents’ academic involvement.Specifically,in urban groups, parents’ academic pressure significantly negatively predicted students’ academic achievement, while in rural groups, parents’ academic pressure has no significant predictive effect on students’ academic achievement; In urban groups, parents’ education anxiety significantly negatively predicted parents’ academic involvement, while in rural groups, parents’ education anxiety had no significant predictive effect on parents’ academic involvement. The results of this study showed that there were differences between urban and rural areas in the dual-pathway model that parents’ education anxiety affected students’ academic achievement through parents’ academic pressure and involvement.Specifically, the dual-pathway model was established in urban groups, but not in rural groups.(5)The moderating effect of grade in the parallel mediating model that parents’ education anxiety affects students’ academic achievement through parents’ academic pressure and involvement was not significant, which indicated that there was no grade difference in the dual-pathway model that parents’ education anxiety affects students’ academic achievement through parents’ academic pressure and involvement. |
