Research On The Application Of Narrative Therapy In The Psychological Reconstruction Of Elderly People Who Have Lost Their Only Chil

In response to the rapid population growth,China has carried out a strict family planning policy,which has produced many families with only one child.At the same time,due to the death of the only child and the loss of the elderly problem also caused widespread concern in the society.As a special group,the elderly who have lost their only child face serious psychological problems which have become one of the important risk factors affecting the harmonious development of society.Therefore,in-depth research on this issue is of great significance for maintaining social stability and reflecting humanistic care.This study mainly discusses the effect of narrative therapy in the psychological reconstruction of the elderly who lost their only child.During the preliminary survey of 5 pension institutions in Q City,a typical elderly person who lost her only child sought services from workers.After receiving the case,the workers first established professional relationship with her,during data collection and diagnostic evaluation,workers found that she had certain difficulties in cognition,emotion and behavior,including difficult healing of psychological trauma,deviation in self-recognition,negative emotions and avoidance of social interaction.Since many of the client’s problems are largely the result of her self-construction,the worker chose narrative therapy to intervene her.In the process of service,workers always uphold the values of acceptance,empathy,confidentiality and so on.Using the methods and techniquesof narrative therapy,such as externalization,generalization,and contextualization problem and seeking unique results,to help them deconstruct and reconstruct their life stories.After 15 interviews in four periods,the workers evaluated the effectiveness of the case service and found that the case service objectives were basically achieved.The negative psychological state of the clients has changed and the meaning of life in their later years has been recovered.In general,the intervention of narrative therapy in the psychological reconstruction of the elderly who lost their only child has certain advantages,but there are also some shortcomings.Therefore,some strategies can be adopted in the future practice to improve the service,it include combining various methods to promote change,improving the professionalism of social work services,linking various resources to build a comprehensive social support system,and promoting policies to play the role of the state as a guarantee.
